Fun Springtime Crafts for the Family By Kymberly Pratt
Don't let the Easter Bunny have all the fun! Make these creative projects and celebrate spring!
Paper Plate Flower Wreath
You'll need:
3 different colors of construction paper
Pencil
Scissors
Paper plate
String
White tacky glue
Here's what you do:
Using the pencil, trace your child's hands on the construction paper at least 10 times. Carefully cut out each handprint.
Glue the handprints onto the paper plate. A good way to do it is to add one color on the outside and add other colors as you work your way in. You want the fingers to be the flower petals and face outward on the plate. Glue a row on the outside and then another color on top of that row, and so on. It will probably take three rows/colors of handprints.
To make the center of the flower, cut out a small circle of any color paper and glue it in the middle. Staple a 12-inch piece of string to the back of the plate and hang it for all to see!
Spring Crown
You'll need:
Colored paper plate
Construction paper
Tissue paper
Cut-out shapes, glitter and anything else to decorate the hat
Scissors
White tacky glue
Ribbon
Here's what you do:
Lay your plate flat and draw a large snowflake shape on it leaving about 1 inch between it and the edge of the plate. Using the scissors, carefully cut along the snowflake shape slits to create the opening of the hat.
Bend the triangles that were formed by cutting the slits to make the hole open for the child's head to fit it. (Note: Since you have used a colored plate, there's no need to paint the plate or color it. You could use white paper plates and have the children paint them to help decorate the hats.)
Decorate the hat with glitter or cut out shapes using the construction paper or tissue paper. You could cut out spring shapes like flowers or butterflies or you could use shapes of your hobbies such as balls and bugs and toys. Glue these shapes all over the hats and especially on the points of the triangles. At the very end glue two pieces of ribbon about 24 inches long to the back of the crown in order to hang and blow in the wind.
