Crafty Ways to Learn About Money

By Kymberly Pratt

Pages:  1  2  3  4

Carefully cut a slit out of the lid. Make the slit big enough to slip any sized coins through.

Next, paint the coffee or oatmeal can any color or design you wish. You could also glue pictures that you have cut out of a magazine onto it. Another idea is to attach fake coins (you could draw them and cut them out of construction paper) with glue. After the paint has dried, write your name on it with a marker and put the lid back on. You are ready to save money!

Hint: If you are saving for something special – such as a new bike – draw pictures of a bike or cut them out and glue them on to help you remember why you are saving money!

Allowance and Chore Chart

You'll need:
  • Paper grocery bag
  • Old magazines
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Star stickers
  • Blank envelope

Here's what you do:
Cut a paper grocery bag open so it can lie flat, and cut off the excess to make a rectangle or square. You could also use an 8x11-inch piece of paper.

Next, use a ruler and make seven columns for the seven days of the week and five rows for five weeks in the month. If you are using the grocery bag, make each row and column about 2 inches wide and long. Don't forget to leave some room at the top for the days of the week and on the left for the different chores you need to do.
