Crafty Ways to Learn About Money
By Kymberly Pratt
At the top of the columns, label each day of the week. On the left side, you can either cut out pictures of your monthly chores or you can draw them. For example, a picture of a bed could represent making the bed, a picture of toys can remind children to pick up their toys, etc.
After you have it all labeled and the pictures of chores glued on, hang the chart on the door to the child's room or in the laundry room. You want it to be somewhere easily seen and accessible. Make sure to attach a blank envelope nearby so you can store your star stickers. Each time a child does a chore you attach a star. At the end of the day or week, Mom and Dad can give the child his allowance money, and he can save it for something very special.
Hint: You may want to make a new chore and allowance chart for each week. But keep in mind that you could create the chart so it can be used all month. For example, you can buy a monthly chart from a teacher's supply store or use a poster board. Instead of stickers you can attach pictures or symbols with Velcro so the chart can be used over and over. Be creative!
