Apply sunscreen of at least SPF15, 30 minutes before going outside.

Outdoor Safety
Use insect repellents containing DEET. The concentration of DEET in products varies; benefits peak at a concentration of 30 percent.

Playground Safety
On the playground, check the temperature of metal slides and only use equipment where the ground surface is shock absorbing and as soft as possible.

Bike Safety
Always use a bike helmet. When purchasing a helmet look for a sticker that says the helmet meets the CPSC safety standard. The helmet should be worn level on the head, not tipped forward or backward. The strap should be securely fastened, and you should not be able to move the helmet in any direction.

Personal Safety
Just because you can see your child doesn't mean they can see you. Make sure there is mutual eye contact between you and your child. If the child should become lost, they should seek help from a person in charge: someone in uniform, behind a cash register or a parent who has kids of their own. Remember: Don't talk to the stranger who talks to you first.

Fireworks Safety
Children should never handle fireworks or stand near anyone who is.
