Patriotic Fun for Anytime of the Year

By Kymberly Pratt

Pages:  1  2

Flags and patriotic symbols are being displayed now more than ever. Get your little one involved by making these red, white and blue crafts. What a fun way to introduce patriotism to your child!

Patriotic Stepping Stones

You'll need:
Paintbrushes
Red, white and blue paint
Large pebble rocks
Sand
Aluminum pie plate
Quick-dry concrete

Here's what you do:
First, paint one side of the rocks red, white and blue. Let them dry completely. After they're dry, place a very small layer of sand about 1/4 inch in the bottom of the pie plate.

Next, place the rocks in the sand. Press them down to the bottom of the plate. The sand will protect the rocks from the concrete sticking to all sides.

Mix up the quick-drying concrete and pour gently on top of the rocks. Fill the pie plate completely. Allow it to dry completely. Then, it should pop right out. Place the stepping stone where everyone can see it!

Tip: Let older children use broken pieces of red, white and blue tile. Marbles will also work. Look around the house. You'll be surprised at how many objects you can find to embellish your stepping stone.

Tabletop Firecrackers

You'll need:
Paper towel rolls
Toilet paper rolls
Red, white and blue paint
Brushes
Glitter
Pipe cleaners
Stapler

Here's what you do:
Paint the paper towel and toilet paper rolls red, white and blue. Let your child get creative! Before the paint dries, help your child sprinkle the glitter all over them. Allow to dry completely.
