Help for Frazzled Moms-to-be
By Katherine Bontrager
If sandwiches quickly become boring, Luhrs suggests making macaroni and cheese ahead of time and adding tuna or another favorite protein to the cheesy noodles. She also recommends easy boxed soups and healthy frozen pizzas.
Planning ahead works well for dinners, too. Think of easy-to-assemble meals such as lasagna, quiches and casseroles that can freeze and quickly be re-heated for hectic evenings. Find simple, filling meals that can stew in the slow-cooker all day while you're busy elsewhere. There are countless recipes aimed at the family that just doesn't have time to slave for hours over a stove. And what mom-to-be wants to stand in front of a hot stove?
"Ask them," Lewis says. "Women far too often have this tremendous amount of anxiety about wanting to be some super human being. They have this notion of the perfect house, perfect laundry and perfect meals with money left over. Yet many women have full-time jobs and come home to ind more needs all around them. Have an honest conversation – starting with your husband – and tell them how they can be of the most help. They can't read your mind."
