Morning Mayhem
Help for Frazzled Moms-to-be
By Katherine Bontrager
"You're tired because your body is very busy creating new life," Lewis says. "So simplify things. Look at your calendar and say 'no' to the unimportant. Then look at your calendar again and say 'no' to the even almost important. You'll have time to do more in a few years. You can't do it all and that means you have to start making quality choices that include your well-being and the well-being of your new child. And part of being healthy is making sure you sleep right, eat right and get enough exercise. Are you? If not, what choices will you begin to make to make your personal health a priority?"
Luhrs agrees that the best advice is to accept reality. "You're pregnant and pregnant women are tired," she says. "You simply won't get much done while you're pregnant. I learned very early to lower my expectations about nearly everything when I had kids. That made things much easier. Giving up any idea about perfection is the best
thing you can do. And accepting reality is one of the best ways to simplify your mind, because most of us waste a lot of good energy trying to change reality. Onceyou accept lower standards, such as a messy house, you can relax and put your feet up more during the day."
