Fun and Free Ways to Help Children Improve Reading Skills

Hey, parents! Help your elementary-aged kids prepare for year-end tests, or get ready for the next school year.
Message Mania
Make print meaningful! Using paper, chalkboard or whiteboard, frequently record little notes, messages, reminders, etc. back and forth to your child.
Bake Up a Storm
Encourage your child to practice reading skills by following a recipe to make something yummy!
Be a Comic
With your child, read a comic book as a play, with each of you taking on a role or two. Change your voice for each character.
Partner Tales
On paper, write a few sentences to begin an exciting story. Then, pass it to your child for her/him to carefully read what you've written, and then add a few more sentences to continue the story. Then, it's your turn again, and so on, until the story is finished. Read it together.
