Pocahontas Costume

Pages:  1  2

Fringes and Finishing Touches:
With pinking shears, cut slits all around the bottom of the dress to fringe it. Cut a strip of fabric from the remaining material about 4 inches wide and long enough to go from the top of the child's shoulder all the way around, under the arm and back to the shoulder. With your pinking shears, cut slits halfway through to fringe it. Sew this around the top of the dress. Cut the rick-rack or ribbon long enough to go around the top of the dress, on top of the fringed material. Cut another piece of rick-rack or ribbon to go over the "V" fringe along the bottom of the dress. Attach this by sewing it on or gluing it. If you desire, you can also cut a piece of leftover fabric out to make a belt to tie around the child's waist.

TIPS
  • Take a piece of the ribbon or rick-rack and make a headband.
  • Fabric glue makes this costume a snap to make.
  • For an extra touch, you could also add Indian beads to the fringe around the neck and along the bottom.
  • Accessorize with an Indian pouch and moccasins.
