Patriotic Painting with Toddlers

Family Fun That's Toddler Friendly

By Kymberly Pratt

Pages:  1  2  3

The entire month of July seems to remind people to show their patriotism and pride. Get your toddler in on the act by making these fun red, white and blue paint crafts that are fun for the whole family.

Independence Pots

Make this a family project. Go together and buy the materials, and let the kids pick out their own pots, flowers and paint. Change the colors for another holiday. They also make great party favors!

You'll need:
3 different sizes of terra cotta pot (small, medium and large works well)
Glitter
Paintbrushes
Red, white and blue paint
1 bag of planting soil
Red, white and blue flowers

Here's what you do:
Choose one color and help your little one paint vertical stripes around one pot. Using another color, show your child how to paint large polka dots on one pot and on the last pot, paint horizontal stripes with the last color. You can use a second color to embellish the pots also. Let your tot get creative!

Before the paint dries on each pot, let your child sprinkle some glitter all over. This adds luster and shine!

After the pot is dry, show your child how to plant the red, white and blue flowers in each pot. (Don't forget to hand him the watering can after they're planted!)

Firecracker Corn

An oldie, but goodie. Kids of all ages will love this sweet craft.

You'll need:
Ears of corn with shucks on
Red, white and blue paint
Paintbrushes

Here's what you do:
Help your child pull the shucks back on the corn, but do not pull all the way off. Give your child a paintbrush and let him paint the ears red, white and blue (or his favorite color).
