Eeek! It's a Haunted Open House
It's a Haunted Open House
By Kendeyl Johansen
Spooky Secret Invitations
Plan the party's details before helping your kids make our ghost-shaped, invisible ink invitations. How many families do you want to invite to the haunted house? When should the party start? How long do you want the festivities to last? Hint: two to three hours works well for this type of party. Martha Boo-art
Your guests will shiver with delight as they explore your spooky open house. Use the tips below for a frightfully fun fete.
- Welcome guests with creepy music. Try Phantom of the Opera or Scary Music for Halloween. Place a portable boom box outside if the weather permits to set an ominous mood.
- Order dry ice. Call your local store ahead of time to make they stock it. Place the dry ice in a black pot and set it next to your front door.
- Enlist a willing husband or preteenager to don a sheet and jump out at guests as they round corners.
- Fill a rubber surgical glove with water and add blue food coloring. Shake. Tie the end f the glove and freeze for 24 hours. Remove the glove. Surprise partygoers by adding this monstrous "ice sculpture" to the punch.
