A Baking Experience with a Personal Touch

After high-fives, the creamy concoction made its way into the oven and baked as a grinning pigtailed girl watched with her nose pressed against the oven window. The aromas made magic in the house – an old pie pan had made magic in the kitchen.
We've all heard that we should get our children involved in food preparation. The childhood obesity epidemic has pushed this point further into the limelight. But somehow, over-scheduled days keep many families from experiencing the joy on a child's face when they cut their first tomato, pulse their first fruit smoothie or crimp their first crust. And sometimes, the most unexpected thing – a pie pan that should have been in the landfill months ago – can be the spark that inspires a parent to cook with her daughter or son.
And it doesn't even have to be a personalized one like mine.
