All Hail the Tonsil Queen

June 5, 2006

Abbey's surgery went perfectly. A little back story. We planned to stay in a hotel the night before the surgery so we didn't have to wake up so early. Abbey and I left early the day before the surgery and went shopping. I told her anything she wanted to do we would do it. So we went to her favorite bookstore and she played with the train and the groovy girls then she went outside and fed the ducks. When she was tired we went to the mall. We had lunch and then she wanted to go to her favorite store. Off to Libby lu www.clublibbylu.com we went. There she got a dog from the pooch parlor. You get to pick a dog, a carrier, a collar, and a shirt. When we got to the check out they told her since she has a libby lu card she could get a makeover for 10 extra dollars and a free tote bag. She was in heaven. The makeover looked cute. She got the princess makeover and wore her tiara the rest of t he day so we called her the tonsil queen. Since the nasty tangles were getting taken out. That night we went out to eat with some of her daddies friends from work. After a good nights sleep we were on our way to the ambulatory surgery center. They were really fast. We registered and were taken back in the span of about 15 minutes. We spent about 45 minutes to an hour in pre of. Which was ok it didn't seem like it too too long. We laughed and took pictures and tried to keep Abbey's mind off what was happening. She started to cry a little when they took her back. She later said she fell right to sleep. Which is what I told her would happen. I went back out to the waiting area. The Dr said he would have someone call us back to see her after they were finished. About 30 minutes later we get called to t he back and the Dr says everything went fine she swallowed a little bit of blood but that she barely bled which is what they were looking for. She was starting to wake up so we got to go back to see her. She was crying and I asked her if she hurt and she said no she just wanted her tonsils. She impressed everyone by wanting to try a popsicle. She was groggy but acting like she felt well. Her puppy (Princess Cloe) had a bandage on her leg like Abbey had on her wrist holding her IV in. I had a spell while holding Abbey where I passed out. I think I don't remember loosing conscience but I was unable to talk I felt very week and tingly all over and a little sick at my stomach. They gave me some oxygen and a graham cracker and 7 up and I felt much better. Like it had never happened so I don't know what it was. I felt the same way when I was in labor with Emmy. That's how I felt right before I pushed her out. Thankfully both time I was sitting down cause I would have fallen for sure. I gave Abbey a suppository before we left to go home since she said her stomach was upset. She slept all the way home and when we got home she hasn't stopped eating. That first evening she ate a package of gummies, 3 bowls of sherbert, 2 of pudding, some apple sauce and several fruit smoothies. She amazed me. I have had to tell her several times to calm down and relax. She has given me a hard time about her medicine. She hates the taste of the pain medicine and doesn't want to take it. I try to let her go as long as I can without taking it. Today she stopped drinking and I figured out that she was hurting to bad to swallow and she just wouldn't admit it. She has been perkier since I gave her the medicine. She has had lots of visitors. My dad came and brought her a balloon. He also gave her money to buy herself something while we were shopping. My mom brought her puzzles to work and Mikes mom and grandma brought her activity books and crayons and a notebook, and cards. She also got a get well card and stickers from the church. Mike's Aunt and Uncle brought her and her sister outfits back from Hawaii They were on vactaion until she got home from the surgery. Abbey's friend Makaylan is coming over to visit on Wednesday. Abbey has been spoiled. Mike told her to enjoy it since she didn't have anything else to be taken and she said next it will be my spleen. Emmy has been as good as can be expected. She is jealous of the attention. When my sister was visiting I let her take over the care of Abbey, but now that she is back at her house I have had to just explain to Emmy that sissy is sick and needs lots of attention. I have still been sleeping with Abbey even though I think the crucial bleeding to death period has passed. I just worry so I will keep this up until the scabs fall off and she is completely healed. I never thought I would see her bored of junk food but she is tired of jello, pudding and ice cream. Ican tell that she is regressing a little. She has been peeing on herself again. She pees right in front of the potty so I know she knows what she is doing. She hasn't had an accident in ages at least since she had her 2nd birthday. For the record she was potty trained at 20 months. Don't ask how I did it. Both of my kids were easy to train. I have been chalking it up to the years I worked in child care and the fact that I have trained about 15 children before I had my own. Practise make perfect. It all should be over soon. And we can get back to life as usual.
