Our Trip to the ER

June 12, 2006

Our Trip to the ER 6-12-06 What a weekend. Emmy got a stomach virus and two nights in a row woke up throwing up. I didn't even think about Abbey getting it too. She said her stomach was upset on Saturday night so I gave her a suppository and she pooped it out we went through this twice. After the second time she went to bed and woke up a few minutes later throwing up. We cleaned her up asked her how her throat felt she said fine. I think she says this cause she HATES her medicine. We tucked her back into bed while her sister sat on the potty and had diarrhea. I was just saying I am so sick of cleaning up puke and poop when I hear Abbey throwing up again. She comes down the hall and stood in front of the bathroom door and throw up a big pile of blood. We totally freak out. Mike calls the surgeon to see if we need to drive to Lexington or if we can manage at the local ER. They say get her to the ER. So I grab shoes and extra clothes for her dress her sister in real clothes and get myself out of jammies. We are thankfully the only people in the ER and she gets taken right back. They put us in a private room. You can go back and read my babiestoday diary about how much I hate this hospital and their ER thanks to how they treated us last year. A little back story Abbey was dehydrated last year and we saw a PA and he gave her a Popsicle and told us to come back if she started experiencing the symptoms we just told him she had. We called her Dr who is an hour away and he told us to bring her up there. It was a very scary situation. I thought she was going to die. I worked for Hospice for 2 years so I have seen dying people and that is exactly what she looked like. So now here we are back in the same ER and she is throwing up blood. Thankfully it was a better experience We saw a real Dr. this time. She was very professional she ran a CBC to make sure we hadn't lost too much blood and then she called Abbey's surgeon to see what they wanted her to do. They said observe us. So they called in the Pediatrician on call to look at Abbey and to admit us. The Dr was Dr. Henly who use to be Abbey's pediatrician when we lived her the first time. She is a good Dr. we like her a lot but decided to stay with Dr. Roberts when we moved because he seems like a better fit and he isn't as busy as she is. Anyway they gave Abbey a Zofran, which they said was a strong anti nausea pill that would keep her from vomiting. It made her sleep from then until about 1:30 the next day. We did manage to wake her up for about 5 minutes for breakfast she ate a half a cup of Jell-O and drank a couple of sips of 7up. She didn't throw up again and she kept lunch down too, which was a whole cup of Jell-O and a half a cup of apple juice. I was surprised that they brought us a guest tray of breakfast and lunch. Since I was sick and throwing up too I gave the food to the baby and Mike, but I thought it was nice of them to send us food. We got home from the hospital about 2:30 on Sunday evening. We were all exhausted. I slept the rest of the evening. My dad and sister came up to visit so they watched Emmy while Mike, Abbey and myself all slept. Mike woke up this morning with the stomach virus too. I can't wait until it runs its course. I was suppose to teach Sunday school for the regular teacher and I don't think I had any volunteers for the two nursery's so I called Paula who works with me and she said she would take care of it. I have my fingers crossed that everything went okay. My only complaints are while in the ER we called the nurses station to say she was throwing up blood again and we could hear them laughing over the speaker for a full minute before someone even asked what we needed. I thought that was rude. Also Abbey had diarrhea while in the room being "observed" when I called the nurses station they came in and said oh she had an accident. I cleaned her up and when I asked if they had anything to put on her since she dirtied her underwear they acted like I was crazy and never did bring me anything. But we did have a nice room with two beds so we could sleep too. As a side note Clorox Oxy Magic It is AWESOME. It got all the blood out of her clothes and the sheets, pillowcases, and blankets during the first wash. I was very impressed. I thought my white bedspread was going to have to be thrown away. Crap Abbey is throwing up again. Gotta run
