After the Sickies

June 16, 2006

I meant to add in the previous post do most of your dr.'s call the day after you have an ER visit to check on your child. Last year when Abbey went to the ER her regular Dr. called us to see how she was the day after everything happened. Then her surgeon called the day after we were released from the hospital to see how she was feeling. He wasn't on call so we talked to his partner. I don't remember my child hood doctors doing this so I was wondering if this was typical now or if it is something that this hospital does. Either way I love it. I feel like they really care about my children and the fact that both times it was the Doctor himself not his nurse that called makes me so happy we are with them. Bet your wondering what happened with the throwing up at the end of the last post. Well nothing really I gave her the strong anti nausea stuff and she fell asleep within 10 minutes. She slept through the night and woke up with a little diarrhea so I packed extra clothes for when I took her to the reading center for her test. She is doing a camp read a lot at the university next month. They will be working with the kids to improve their reading skills. Abbey is really a good reader but I thought it couldn't hurt to have extra help. She has a friend who is doing it with her and a girl from their cheerleading team is also doing it, so they should have fun together. The test was two hours long. Thankfully she didn't have an accident on herself while taking the test. Knock on wood we appear to be past the sickies. Later that afternoon we had our first cheerleading practice. It was interesting. The uniforms are 120 and we have to sell candles to raise the money. It all has to be turned in by next Tuesday. There is no way I can sell 30 candles by Tuesday. I have sold to everyone in Mike's family and still lack 26 my mom said she would just give me the 5 we would make from selling the candle. Mike took the order form with him to work so hopefully his coworkers will feel sorry for us and buys a bunch of candles. I have a feeling I will be buy most of this uniform out right. The only other thing that has happened is my cell phone died. Which is a funny story. You see I am a hold out. I couldn't imagine having a cell phone. I didn't really want to be tracked down when I wasn't at home. Even when I worked for Hospice and it was a hassle to call people I was meeting on a pay phone not to mention the scary places I had to go I should have had one for safety reasons (I was seeing a lady who lived in a crack house). Anyway, we moved to where we are now and my husband's grandfather got sick and suddenly people needed to be able to reach us for when he died. SO we got tracphones. Which I will tell you having had one for a year they are really great if you don't talk that often. In the beginning we didn't. We hardly called anyone but as the year went on we relied on our phone more and more until last month we decided to get a real plan. Since most of the people we knew had cingular that's what we went with. My phone didn't act right from the start. At first it only rang about half the time and people had to leave me messages. Then Sunday morning when Abbey was in the hospital it started dropping calls. Which is funny if you have ever seen a cingular commercial. It started doing it about every 30 seconds. My conversation with my mom was Abbey is in the hospital (call her back) its nothing serious (call her back) I'll call when we get out (hang up). I called on Monday to explain to customer service what the phone is doing and they tried something then said they would send me a new phone. On Tuesday I tried calling Mike and the phone wouldn't work at all. It acts like it is going to make a call and then it ends the call before it even rings. I am so mad. Just when I became dependent on the stupid thing. I called Cingular today to ask when the new phone would be coming and I was transferred 5 times the person I spoke to the 5th time tried to direct connect me with someone who could help and she hung up on me. The short story is no one at Cingular has any idea what I am talking about no return was ever processed for me. But every one is very "sorry" that I am experiencing a problem. I am seriously considering switching carriers as soon as my contract is up. We bought a snow cone machine. The 14 dollar one from Wal Mart. It is pretty neat. It gives you a mold for round ice cubes so you can put them in the machine but I found that ice cubes or bagged ice work fine too. The trick is where it says push on top to really push otherwise it takes so long to come out your ice is melted. The girls have enjoyed them. I have been putting the snow cones in a plastic cup so I don't have any extra dishes to wash. Eating with a spoon is so much easier for Emmy who has yet to figure out how to eat a freezer pop without coming to me every five minutes to push it up for her.
