Back to School

August 11, 2006

Well the first day of school is over. Abbey likes it. She came home saying she had so much fun she can't tell me all about it. All she said was she played on the playground with her friends in other classes. The school had an ice cream social where everyone could come in and meet the teacher and have ice cream before school started. It was sponsored by the PTC (Parents and Teachers for Clearfield) I volunteered to help but I guess they didn't need me. They were also selling back to school packets. The packets contain all the school supplies that the teacher asked for. That way parents don't have to shop. I didn't buy a packet but I did buy another magnet for my car. I bought one last year they are a big paw print and say Clearfield Cougars. I washed my car last week and lost it at the car wash. When I was telling the PTC president that she laughed. Apparently they have heard that a lot. I still don't know how I feel about public school. I am not sure if I have ever mentioned it but I had some very bad experiences with school. I had a lot of teachers who really didn't care about the children they were teaching. If I had been a les stubborn person I might have given up like so many others but I didn't. I really do not want my children to go through the same stuff I did. It has been understood between Mike and myself that we would give public school a try. He comes from a family of teachers that are against home schooling. So we agreed on a trial. Kindergarten was great. I really like the teacher. She was a nice lady that really pushed her students. Her 1st grade teacher seems ok. She smiles a lot. We had a really bad first night of school. I had a board meeting to go to so I cooked and left the food on the stove and told Mike to feed the girls while I was gone. I come back two hours later and everyone is asleep and no one has eaten and he wants to go to his grandmas house because they bought watermelon for Abbey and wanted to see how school went. So we leave even though it is an hour until bed-time. Abbey eats and tells them about school. I rush everyone home bath, book and bed then I realize she hadn't actually eaten dinner so I get her back up feed her and then we all collapse in bed. I almost didn't make it out of bed this morning. I told Mike we are NOT doing that again. Abbey has a strict bedtime for school nights and she has to have some routine. Our cat is missing. She has apparently wondered off. Abbey is completely freaking out. I have tried to tell her that she will be back. We have a lot of cats in the neighborhood and I bet she is visiting them. Abbey has also asked for her training wheels to be taken off. Well okay she asked to have one taken off but that is a start. I think Abbey may be the only 6 year-old still using training wheels. Emmy has been so cranky lately. I don't know what could be the problem. She spends most of the day crying that she wants me even when I am standing right beside her. She wants to be held a lot. I thought maybe she was sick but she isn't running a temp and if I ask her if anything hurts she always says no. It may have something to do with the attention on Abbey due to going back to school. I am so sad. I just read that Catharine is not going to be writing her Bringing up Ben and Birdy journal anymore. I love reading about her and her children. She never fails to make me laugh.
