Allergies and the car hunt

November 11, 2006

Out of the Mouth of Emmy I like Santa Closet, when her sister was bothering her I can't stop crying I said why not and she said oh I did and started laughing. Emmy has had violent mood swings lately. One minute she is the sweetest thing you could ever ask for and the next she is in the middle of a full on 2 year old breakdown screaming crying and pulling her hair. She calms pretty quickly once I explain that I can't understand her and I need her to use words. She usually says I can't like that it makes me sad. She appears so grown up to me. She also looks like she is chunking up so I am guessing that we are about to have a growth spurt and that is what is going on with her. She is still in the stage where she wants to do everything Abbey does. I guess that will last most of her life. I am having her a little cheerleading shirt made this week so she can wear to Abbey's games. She has been sleeping in her room every night since I put her and Abbey in a room together. She acts like such a big girl and Abbey stays in her room instead of coming to my room because her sister is there. That works out great for me. Emmy has been cutting out the naps. She will get up when I get her sister up and stay up until about 9 or 9:30 at night. Every once in a while she will take a small nap usually less than an hour. Abbey did the same thing so I really didn't expect Emmy to continue napping. My best guess is they are such active kids that they don't want to miss a minute of the day. Thankfully that means they are exhausted at night and are pretty easy to get to sleep. We have had another one of those weeks. Abbey had pink eye so I took her to the Dr and then he gave me a referral for an allergy test. On the morning of the allergy test Emmy woke up with pinkeye so I took her to the Dr with me. Abbey's allergy test came out mildly allergic to everything and moderate allergy to dust and mold and a off the charts serious allergy to roaches. Needless to say I was grossed out. We have never seen any in the house. The Dr. told me to use the same drops on Emmy's eyes that we used on Abbey's. Abbey got about 6 prescriptions from the allergy Dr. After nearly a week of taking the allergy medication Abbey's skin is clearer and smoother than it has ever been in her life. You cannot tell she has eczema. I have been doing her eye drops in the morning and at night she loves the nasonex spray. She said it really helps her smell. I never knew she had a problem and maybe she never realized it either. She does the spray twice a day all by herself. She has this awesome antihistamine to take every night and it makes her go to sleep right away. So I give it to her right at bedtime it's the last thing on our bedtime routine now. I have been able to stop elidel, protopic and the steroid. All she gets on her arms is a small amount of vasaline after her bath. I am a big fan of Eczema sufferers getting an allergy test now. If I had known that dust was the problem I would have fixed it ages ago. I still don't have a car. My uncle sold the car he had. Mike has started working a different shift so I could get to work without begging a ride and I can get Abbey from school. We looked at cars. I found a few that looked decent. But I can't believe I am typing this. I fell in love with a Windstar. It looks really pretty and Abbey fell in love. We will know on Monday if we are going to get it. The service Engine soon light stayed on and we took it to our mechanic and he said the codes were not in his book so the car lot is hooking it up first thing Monday morning. Other than the light being on our mechanic said it looks and sounds great he opened the hood and checked the hoses and stuff. Abbey was suppose to do cheerleading for basketball season only there has been some really crazy stuff going on and it has been two weeks and we hadn't got called about a practice or a game or anything. Finally I got a hold of the department over it and we met today for a practice. We looked at cars while she practiced. She only missed three games so I guess it wasn't too bad. The uniforms are cute. Not as professional as the football uniforms but still cute. She has two games this week. I also had a conference with Abbey's teacher. She said she is doing great. She gave me a copy of the standardized tests she took at the end of last year and Abbey scored in the 90th percentile of just about everything. She scored a little lower on Math she scored in the 68th percentile and what dropped her score were data and statistics. The only complaint her teacher had was that she is too social which is the same thing we heard last year. Her teacher said she gets finished with her work and then wants to talk only not everyone is finished. The teacher also said Abbey complains of her stomach hurting a lot. I have noticed this at home. I suspect it is nerves. I give her the prevacid she is supposed to take. As a side note on this Abbey has not complained of her stomach hurting since she started the allergy medicine and I asked her if it has been hurting and she said no she hasn't had any pains in almost a week. So that is another good thing about seeing the allergist. I guess all her problems has been an allergy.
