update again...

January 29, 2007

Well, I guess I should back up to around Christmas. Christmas was spent on a cruise. Ron and I took the boys on a cruise to Mexico. We visited Cozumel, Progreso and Belize. We had a good time. It was a good test to see how a cruise works with kids. We went on the Norweigan Dream out of Houston. It's not the nicest of NCL's ships but it was OK. I wouldn't recommend it although the price was worth it, I suppose.

We had a room with two portholes. Good thing there were two, one for each of the kids. The first night they played up there like it was a pirate ship for over an hour. There was a pretty bad storm that night so the pirates were definitely in a tough battle that night. We were on the bottom floor for guests and the water was just below the window about 10 feet. With the rough seas occasionally the water would smack the window – the boys would pretend they were hit. You could see the glow of the lights on the water from above which made it kind of eerie.

We had one day at sea after we boarded and it was overcast and windy and still rough. I had to start taking the Dramamine. My OB doctor prescribed me some since I was 3 months pregnant at the time. I also got Reglan, anti-nausea drug (if you can stand not to throw up from the bitterness of the pill).

The second day was Christmas and we went to a beach in Progresso, Mexico. It was windy; but the resort was nice and the pool was protected from the wind. The kids had a great time. Both boys met friends on the boat. G had a buddy named Ethan from Calgary, Canada. Owen's friend was Christopher from Detroit. It was nice to meet both families and their kids. I forgot to put the correct card in my digital camera so my pictures were few and far between. Later that evening Santa appeared and gave gifts to all the kids.

Day 2 was in Cozumel – another rough day at sea. We left the boys at the kid's crew for the day while Ron and I walked around. We found a great Mexican place to eat. It was in a cubbie hole of a building but amazing. They made the guacamole at the table for you and the salsa was fresh and spicy – just the way we like it. I've already forgotten the name now. We had planned to buy something for me for Christmas here, but didn't find anything I couldn't live without. That's OK; money was saved.

The third day was in Belize. We went to an eco-resort and saw a butterfly farm. We got local lunch favorites of chicken, plantains and lots of hot sauce and a mango fruit juice. They had a pool with a fancy slide which was nice. The weather was nice but the water was freezing. The kids didn't seem to mind though.

We then had two days at sea and the weather did start to get better. The last night was rough and rainy again. The food on the boat was great and the kids had a great time. What more could we ask.

We had to sleep over one night at the hotel post-cruise because of our plane tickets. So, while there I hooked up with an old Precon buddy, Megan and her son Mitch. She picked us up at the hotel downtown and we went to Chili's and ate. G and Mitch hit it off pretty well. When we got back to the hotel we chatted for a while in the room, then Megan had to drag Mitch out the door. They were having so much fun he didn't want to leave. But, you could tell we were all tired and they had an hour's drive ahead of them. It was a great meeting. Megan and I had chatted for years never having met in person. We hit it off like old friends. It's was very natural. January has now come.

Today is Monday the 29th. The pregnancy has been going well. The first three months weren't great. I had the flu two weeks ago. I took raglan feeling like it was morning sickness and it made me toss my cookies. But, now I'm feeling great. Last Friday was the big day – the ultrasound. I am 4 ˝ months along and only having gained about 4-5 lbs. 4 of those pounds were gained in the last two weeks. I have been eating better this time. I feel like eating healthy things, like salad and fruit. I'm happy about that. I hope I can continue to do this.

Ron and I talked about only boys names this month. I didn't want to get my hopes up too high. I really wanted a girl this time and I was scared to go to the ultrasound. I decided that I was carrying a boy and his name would be Cole. It was the only name we could agree on up to the point of the ultrasound. Not that I would've loved a boy any less. But, I wanted to know what it was like to have a girl.

God has a plan for us. He is giving us a GIRL. I am so happy! And the ultrasound showed a very healthy girl. They did a thorough scan of her body, organs, brain, bones and took tons of measurements. I really didn't think I'd be convinced it was a girl. But, the baby was positioned perfectly and the picture we got was as if she was sitting on a glass table. You could clearly see the absence of a boy-like protrusion and the ultrasound tech showed us the 3 lines that represent the girl parts. I was convinced. I was happy. I started to cry. I looked at Ron and put both my thumbs up. I said to him " good job honey, you did it." I teared up for a while and truly this was a good day in my life. The doctor then came in, reviewed the pictures, looked in more detail at the heart, organs and brain and for as much as he could tell gave us a bill of health.

We then went to lunch at the mall and met my step-daughters there. Before they arrived, Ron and I bought a token girl outfit from Gymobree and put it in a blue box and gave it to the girls at lunch. We were all pretty excited. Probably me more than anyone. Everyone asks if Ron is happy and the truth is, If I'm happy he's happy. He was indifferent to the sex of the child, but knew what I wanted. He now will have three girls and three boys.

Life is great right now. What more can I say.
