10-13-06 - Here we go again!
October 13, 2006
I went to the clinic for an official pregnancy test today. It was positive. I knew it would be since I tested on Tuesday and Wednesday. But, I had to go in and get an official test before they'd allow me to make an appointment with the OB - Army rules. The army health care system is very different than the private sector, but once you understand how it works and how to work it, it's not so bad. The buildings and sometimes the equipment can be antiquated but to be honest with both of my pregnancies and deliveries I had excellent physicians (except for the 1st anesthesiologist). The first one actually went to school with my sister (who is an OBGYN) and the second one is one of the premier neo-natal specialists in Louisville who was switching firms, and had an 18 month no compete clause to fulfill and decided to work at the Fort Knox hospital during that time. Not a bad thing at all. They all took great care of me. I had single rooms each time and they don't have a nursery. They put the babies in the room with you. The nurses were great. If they weren't busy, they'd ask if they could come in and hold the baby or play with it. They are very accomodating and encouraging (for healing).
Anyway, I have a much better feeling about this pregnancy and am feeling "pregnant" this time. From the beginning of the last one, I knew something wasn't right. And the miscarriage proved it. Last time they had to take 4 tests at the clinic to get a + sign. This time it came up right away.
We went to Williamsburg last week for Fall Break. The place where we stayed was very nice. Although, they had the pool near our building (time share) closed but they did have one indoor and one outdoor pool and 2 hot tubs in the main building. There weren't many kids there. I did my research before I went and there are lots of things to do, but starting October 1st (which I found out when we got there) most places close during the week. Things that were closed during the week: mini-golf, Busch Gardens, go carts... We had planned to do those items Friday and Saturday prior to leaving - except for the Noreaster. I never knew what a Noreaster was. Thursday night, the rain began and it didn't stop for 3 days. It sat right over the East Coast, almost literally over us. So, we decided to leave Friday morning because the weekend forecast looked bleak. And back in KY they were having great weather and it was still warm. Besides, the big art fair of the year was going on and I got to go.
Anyway, while we were in Williamsburg, we went to Yorktown and Jamestown, which were educational and neat. Jameston had three ships that they boys got to go on and they loved it. They also got to see a recreated fort and indian campsite. Yorktown had the Yorktown Center and they had a recreated army fort and gun demonstrations and dress up room which they liked as well - that was day 1. Day two I went to the outlet mall while DH stayed with the kids at the playground and tennis courts. Then we went to downtown Williamsburg and walked around. Wednesday was the best day. It was forecasted to be 80s and sunny so we drove to Virginia Beach. We spent the day at the beach. G surfed the waves on his raft (he's my waterbaby) and Owen did a little wading which I was happy to see. He has always been frightened of the water. But, the waves were great and the water was shallow and worked out great for everyone. G and I went for a walk and saw the biggest sandcastle in the world. They had built it 2 weeks prior for a competition and hadn't had rain yet.
Thursday we went to the go kart place - closed and the golf place - closed so ended up at the Williamsburg Pottery place. We bought a few things, but I know the kids were bored. We opted not to go to Colonial Williamsburg since everything I read said it really wasn't for young kids.
Today is Friday the 13th. Today is also treasure box day at school if you have a week without giving trouble ot the teacher. G has gotten something 3 weeks in a row - YEAH! And I've also been bribing him so today he got a country music CD from me. He is listening to it now. Last week (prior to fall break) he got money and got to go to CHuck E Cheese (which we had planned on for Owen's birthday too - killing two birds with one stone). And the week before that he got a wallet which he has been wanting for a long time.
As I mentioned Owen had his 3rd birthday. It fell on the day we'd be driving to Williamsburg. We planned to drive half way since G had a double header soccer game and we weren't going to be able to leave until 2 o'clock. So, I took lunch for the whole team in between games and called it a mini party for Owen. We looked online for the Chuck E Cheese in Charleston WV and got there around 6:30 on Saturday night. I wrapped presents and got candles and we took those in with us. They gave owen a balloon and a birthday crown to wear. I think it worked out just fine. Although, the CEC near us is bigger and nicer and the pizza is better.
I do have a good story. Owen will hate me someday for recording this. He is technically potty trained. He doesn't wear diapers to bed, just undies and takes himself to the bathroom when he needs to. Sometimes he has poopy accidents. But, yesterday for some reason right after he was in the potty he decided to poop elsewhere. I was under the covers trying to stay warm since we had a cold spell come through and hadn't turned the heat on. It was about 8 am and I was still tired. I hear him out by the laundry room and yelled out to him, "What are you doing." His answer was "hiding." I became suspicious about a minute or two later when he was still banging the machines. He had crawled into the dryer (and fortunately not shut the door) and decided to poop in there. he pulled most of the clean clothes out and pushed the others to the back. His pants were loaded and there were a few drops of poop in the dryer. It was pretty gross. I pulled him out closely and told him that was a bad thing he did. I marched him to the shower not realizing how bad it was. There was a trail all the way to the bathroom and the new dog we got (whole 'nother story) was follwing him and eating the chunks. GROSS!!! I put him in the shower and told him to take off his undies and wash them in the shower. We had done this same exercise two weeks earlier and though that by having him clean them out would encourage him not to do it again. I guess it didn't work. He could care less. I did end up having to go in with him because the mess was horrible and stuck to him. When I mentioned it at dinner that night to his brother and daddy, he was so embarrassed he started to cry. He turned to his daddy and said "Mommy scared me." in retrospect, it's kind of funny, but it was pretty disgusting.
