April 2, 2003

This is a sad day for my family. This morning I received a phone call from my mom. My grandmother has been in the nursing home for years and for the past several months has been going downhill. This morning they gave her 3 hours to live. It was still a shock for me. She was my only grandparent left. She was in her late 90’s. I rushed to pick up my sister and headed to the nursing home. Not even an hour after getting there she past on. She is now with Jesus. She has been asking for months “why?” She was talking to Jesus, wondering why he had not taken her home yet. I guess it was not time until today. Grandma lived a long life. For as long as I can remember she was a Jesus loving woman. She lived such an awesome life. The family history is such an amazing story and I yet to hear all of it. Grandma had a heart of gold! It was so sad to see her pass, but I know in my heart she was ready for some time now. I remember mom telling me how Grandma even went to college after finishing all of high school. That is a major accomplishment for the time she grew up in. She was well loved by many. I just wish I could have heard all of her life stories. A month ago on one of our visits to see her she asked Don to pray with her. He did and she was so happy that he was there to do just that. Don too wishes he could have sat and listened to the stories of her life. I will miss Grandma so very much. She was always so full of love and happiness. I remember every time as a child going to her house. We would knock on the door only to be greeted by a high pitched voice saying “COME ON IN!!!” She always seemed to have yogurt, push ups and real honey combs for us when we were there. We used to run around the farm chasing the wild kittens, helping grandma collect eggs from the chicken coop, help feed the baby calves, and so on. Life to her was precious and she cherished every moment. Grandma we will miss you dearly. I know you are home with our Lord now. And with Papa and Dad. I love you Grandma!
