Well while at the peds. office for Noah's 18 month check up the dr. talked with me about Austin and the evaluation. Well from it she said he did score in the range of ADD. BUT...she said that office doesn't like to go right to meds they want to explore different routes. Which is EXACTLY what Don and I want to do. She mentioned that I should talke with the current teacher and let her know the situation, and next year talk with that teacher and have her keep me informed about Austin's progress. That he is probably going to need one on one help for a while. I totally agreed. And if he still shows no progress after a while in 1st grade then we will sit down and talk about medication. And if need be it would be a very low dose. But we don't think it would come to that. I talked to her about trying him is some sport activity or martial arts and she said it wouldn't hurt to try. That he might benefit from martial arts, it would help him to concentrate, focus, discipline, etc. So we will check into that after this school year is out. The doctor did mention that alot of times teachers want a child to be on a medication of some sort to make the child "better" and that is not always the case that needs to happen. I am so thankful that this dr. is on the same wave length as Don and I. She knows Austin and seems to think he just needs a little extra help to get him headed in the right direction. And he will take off after that. She said she has talked with him many times during visits and she said and I quote, "he has great potential to be a brillant person, he is extremely smart, just needs a little more help to get him started." That made me so very happy to hear. So now we will go from here and help Austin to become the best he can be, which I think will be an awesome person, more so than what he already is.
