Wow! Just looking at today's day is so memorable to me. Today Don and I have been married 10 years. I can still remember the wedding day like it was last week. That day we were starting a new life together. Little did we know where life would take us, who we would me, what friends we would make, and what beautiful children we would have. Along the way we have met so many great people, who have inspired us, touched our lives, were there when we were down, and they will forever be in our lives. Don came along in my life when I least expected him too. I have to say that what my mom always said is true,"your true love will find you when you are not looking, when you least expect it." Boy she was so right about that one. I remember my mother coming home from the local grocery story (where Don worked at the time) and telling me about "this guy" that works at the store. How good looking he was and how very nice and polite. Then proceded to tell me,"he is going to be my future son in law christa." I about come unglued. At the time I was not interested in dating. I was having fun hanging out with my friends. A man would just be in the way of my fun. HAA! What little I knew. Oh I would go into the store now and then to see a friend. But had NO interest in "seeing this new guy". Till one day my friend that worked there told a little lie. Oh yes a lie! She told Don I had called the store asking for him. Little did I know that Don had questioned my friend about me. You know the typical: Is she single? What is her name? Do you think I should call her? Well my dear little (lying) friend told her little tale that I called for him, though I didn't even know his name at the time! Well that evening I get a call from a guy named Don. He was talking away like I knew him or something. Finally I asked who it was. He figured it out right as soon as I said I never called. But we proceded to talk and he asked to meet with me for lunch the next day. We met on his lunch breaks almost everyday. But boy I was mean. I had a bad relationship prior to this so I gave Don no slack! Poor guy! I remember one time he was late coming out to the parking lot on his lunch so I left and went home. He did call and I flat out told him I don't wait around for any man. Another time a local girl was "sweet on don" and I was not about to compete for him. So I told him. He had to intentions to follow the other girl. But I made myself clear. I had about had it with men at that point in life. Then came the actual first date. I told him if he was 2 minutes late to not bother to show up. He was 5 minutes early, I guess just to shut me up. He put up with alot before that first date. That date was on May 15, 2002. We dated for a while (note at the time neither of us were born again christians, we were into the world so much) then moved in together. That August he turned all the lights off, sat me in a recliner, lite a bunch of candles, went to the bedroom and changed into his suit, turned some romantic music on and got down on one knee and said,"Christa I love you so much. Will you marry me and make me the happiest man on earth?" I remember screaming for joy and yelling YES, as I hugged him. Story about the ring: Don said he went to the jewelry store found a ring, filled out the credit application and as it was processing he prayed a simple prayer to God that if this is who God meant for Don to marry then be it his will for Don to get this ring, if not the credit wouldn't go through. Don said his credit was not real good back then so it would be a miracle of God if it went through. It did! And Don said he knew right then it was meant to be. One year after our first date we got married: May 15, 2003. We have moved around Missouri alot, and even Texas for a short time, made new friends, lost touch with some, and had our fair share of highs and lows. Had 2 great boys that we love dearly and today we both say our marriage is stronger than it has ever been, and gets stronger everyday. Don is my best friend. And I love him so much. He is the love of my life. People tell us all the time how lucky we are to have such a loving, great marriage. I do feel like the luckiest woman on earth. I can not begin to say how much Don has touched my life, my heart, my soul. I love him for all he has done for me, and all the great years we have to look forward too.
I love you Don, with all my heart. I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for the next 10 years. Together it will be a glorious adventure. Thank you dear for being my best friend, my love, the father of our children, and most of all thank you for all you have given to me, it's more than you could ever know.
Christa
