December 22, 2001

Saturday the 15th you finally got to go and see Santa. We went to a BIG mall a few hours from home and it was so neat! We waited for a little more than an hour to see the jolly old guy, but you seemed okay with that. When it was finally your turn you told Santa that you wanted a pink outfit that you had seen in a store, Boo from Monsters Inc., and a poochi that was pink. Your brother was not as cooperative, he did not want to smile for the picture and he would only say that he wanted Monsters Inc. toys. Santa asked if he likes Sulley and he said "No! Only Mike Wagzowski." After we saw the picture we said how beautiful you had smiled and Caleb was proud that he didn’t smile. I will never understand your brother!!

That day we also ate at a Rainforest Café for lunch. You did okay eating wise, and you enjoyed looking around, it just didn’t seem as special as it had in the past.

Finally we headed back to the hotel for another nights stay. We drove through a couple of parks that had several light displays. The one park has become somewhat of a tradition for us to go and see. This year there weren’t as many displays and many of them were patriotic. It was a nice time driving through.

Monday was watch week at dance class. This time NaNa was able to come and watch your class. She was very impressed with how well you all did. You have now finished both dances and are just fine tuning them until competition. You got the costume for Rockin’ Robin and it is very cute, not Big Birdish at all. I am very pleased with it, the hat that goes with it and everything. The costume for Tossin’ and Turnin’ should be done soon, it looks a little cutesy for me, but I am sure it will be great. I need to pick up your new earrings and then we will be ready to go. It feels good to know what will be coming up, like we are not newbies anymore. Tech class was good too, but because I have sat in before I have to say that they sure do a lot more tech work when all the parents are there than they normally do. That is what the class is for, but they sure seem to spend a lot of time working on goofy dances that they will never finish or perform.

On Thursday you had a Winter party at school. I had promised I would come, so even though I felt horrible I did. I was so happy to be there too. It was our job to have take home treats for everyone so we had them made and ready to hand out. They were bags shaped like snowmen and we filled them with some candy, candy canes, suckers and on the outside we had a snowflake ornament. They were very cute. First at the party your class sat on the floor and played a game kind of like musical chairs. You passed a present around the circle and whoever had it when the music stopped got to open it. Of course it was a box wrapped several times so the game took a while, but when the final wrap came off there were color books for everyone. Then it was time for a treat and another mom had made cookies and put everyone’s name on them, they were very neat. Soon after that you passed out your treats for everyone and it was time for Mom to leave. I sure was glad that I could go, you will never have a kindergarten “winter” party again.

On Friday the kindergarten classes had a little show for the moms and dads in the morning. Daddy, Caleb, PaPa and myself went to see what you had learned. You and the others sang several different Christmas songs, of course none of them mentioning why we have Christmas, but I knew that going into public schools. Afterwards we all went down to the cafeteria for cookies and juice and a chance to just talk to one another. We got a few pictures of you and your friends before it was time for us to leave and for you to go back to class.

Now Christmas is just around the corner. You are very excited about Santa coming, and I thought for sure that this would be the year you found out. Maybe you want to believe I am not sure, but daddy and I have given it away so many times on accident. I am glad that you still believe, but I keep thinking it will be easier when you don’t. I would never tell you otherwise, but I am not sure I will be upset when you figure it out. I remember Gram being sad when I told her I knew, I wonder if I will be sad too.

This Saturday Aunt Sandy will come over and we will get to see her for a while and on Sunday we will have our Christmas with Grandpa, Oma, Aunt Patti and her family.

Sweetie, I love you and I am very proud of you. Know I love you very much. Wherever you are right now reading your journal, know I wrote it with love for you.

Love,
Mom
