Donna's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 3, 2003

The kids had a great Christmas. They were surprised by the trampoline -- even Ashlee who I had thought overheard me a time or two talking about it. We spent Christmas Eve at my grandparent’s house, even though Grandpa was back in the hospital again. Grandma ended up coming home with us and spending the night. Everything went fine until Christmas morning. She can be a mean old bird. :-) After we opened all the gifts, we got dressed and drove her to Uncle Dick’s, then headed to Misty and Craig’s house.

Even with my careful planning not to overdo it with the kids this year, they ended up with entirely too much, as usual. We skipped shopping the day after Christmas and stayed home so they could play with their new stuff.

I’ll skip ahead to New Year’s Eve. We went out for dinner at El Jarrito, then came home and watched “The Rookie.” Boy, are we party animals or what? At 11:59, Michael paused the movie and reminded everyone it was a new year. If it hadn’t been for him we would have missed it. :-) We went to Grandma Peggy’s house on New Year’s Day. We had our traditional "Whew! Thank Goodness It's Over" Breakfast at Cracker Barrel the next morning, then went to Katy Mills Mall afterwards.

Today Katie went to see “Treasure Planet” with Abby. When she got home, we went to Café Del Sol for dinner, where Katie did the funniest thing. Michael kept going into the bar to check the score on some college football game. Well, we were eating chips and salsa and talking when we looked up and noticed Katie was gone. I was about to get up and go look for her when here she comes around the corner. I asked her where she went, and she said, “To check on the squirrel.” LOL She thought Michael was saying “squirrel” when he said “score.” :-) She acted like she had checked on the squirrel, same as Michael had, but I could tell she wanted to know where this squirrel was.

We had another incident earlier today that made me ask myself WHY do I do this to myself all the time? Michael got a small one-gallon aquarium for Christmas. We went out a few days ago and bought five or six fish for it. Well, I was getting dressed this morning and Katie ran in the room yelling, “Leon is dead! Leon is dead!” over and over, then burst into tears. Leon?? I asked who Leon was and she yelled that he was the neon fish, then started crying again. Why do I do this? We have bad luck keeping animals alive in this house, so why do I tempt fate? While she was at the movies, I disposed of Leon’s body, which, as I would hear all day long, was missing an eye by the time I got around to doing it.

Until next time.
