Donna's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 23, 2004

Ashlee came home the other day and told us that she was on the ballet for the “Prettiest Eyes” for the 8th grade. A few weeks ago, the entire 8th grade had a write-in ballot for those categories we all remember too well – “Most Likely to Succeed,” “Best Dressed,” “Class Clown,” “Prettiest Hair,” etc. She was completely surprised when the ballot listing the top three in each category was passed out and she was listed. How cool is that?? Of course, the other two girls in the “eyes” category are “pretty” and “cheerleaders,” so she can’t understand how she would be there because she’s “ugly.” (Give me a break.) Though she tried to play it off, it was a real self-esteem booster for her. When Richard pointed out that in order to get on the ballot, a lot of boys must notice her eyes, she about died. :-) I think more people notice her than she thinks.

What’s up with Katie? She’s been selling Girl Scout cookies and flirting. The school had open house a few nights ago, and we couldn’t believe how often she wrote, “I love Christopher,” in her journal. She was not embarrassed about it at all, even when her teacher was standing there while she read it to us. On a few pages it said, “I love Brandon” and “I love Phillip.” We’re guessing she was upset with Christopher or that he was absent those days. :-)

Michael is excited because baseball is about to start again. Tryouts are next Saturday. He’s also really enjoying Imagination Destination. He made his costume and they’re now working on learning their lines. The tournament isn’t until the last Saturday in February, so they still have time.

Richard and I went out again and left the kids home last Friday. We went with John and Terri to Churrascos. Though they’ve changed their menu a bit, it was still excellent.

Today Ashlee and I were bad. Just a little bit. I picked her up from school at 11:30 to go to the orthodontist. One of the wires came loose and was bothering her. Afterwards, we went to lunch and then saw a movie. We saw “Along Came Polly.” It was cute. Tonight she’s going back to the mall to meet some friends. The mall is officially the “in” place to be for her. She’s also really into tennis. I just signed her up today for a tennis league. They play on Sundays, and Michael on Saturdays, so we won’t have overlapping games like volleyball. I hope she enjoys it.

Until next time.
