Donna's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 11, 2003

Michael got glasses last Friday. He was really excited about getting them and couldn’t wait to wear them. They were out of school that day, so after his eye exam we went to Souper Salad for lunch, where we had one of those almost perfect meals together. Not the food, though it was good. They were all three in a great mood, no one fought, we talked, laughed, joked. If only it could be that way all the time! I made sure to thank them for such a great lunch before we left (positive reinforcement!).

Saturday Ashlee had a basketball game. Misty and Mom came to the game and then we went shopping for a while. The Sparks lost …again. I think they need to regroup! :-)

On Sunday, we went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast/lunch. Michael did the cutest, grossest and neatest thing at the end of the meal. Katie had found a smaller version of her favorite stuffed dog, Skip, while we were waiting for our name to be called. She begged on and off throughout the meal for us to buy it for her. We were done eating and Ashlee started poking at this bowl of nasty grits that had come with her breakfast. They were ice cold and had gotten this skin on the top. Not very appetizing. Richard got a spoon and got a mound of grits on it. He held it towards Katie and told her if she ate it he’d buy her the dog. LOL Well, she did consider it for a minute, then decided the dog was not worth it. Michael told her he would do it for her. He takes the spoon and stares at it for a minute or two. He started to get this funny look on his face. I told him to put it down before he made himself sick. He then put it in his mouth, then quickly pulled it out and gagged – literally! Then he gagged again. This time I panicked and told him he better not vomit on the table! He grabbed his root beer and chugged it down, then put his head down for a minute. Well, needless to say we bought the dog for Katie, which made it worth it for Michael. He is such a good kid. I cannot believe he did that for his sister. But, next time we’ll tell them NOT to bring the grits!

Tonight Sandra and I took the kids to Jason’s Deli. We now have a set time to meet and to leave because we’re both hooked on American Idol. Oh, and Sandra and Fred finally retaliated about the cardboard tree (we got a huge prop from Ash’s play last year and put it in their yard in the middle of the night). Sunday when we went to leave for lunch, there was this tree – the same sad tree -- standing in the middle of our yard. Too funny. When I went to get it, I found that Fred had hammered a curtain rod in the ground to keep it standing. He meant business. We are now plotting our revenge…

Tomorrow is our last day home before leaving for New Mexico. I THINK I have everything. I plan to have everything packed and in the car before going to bed. We’re supposed to be at the Bell’s house at 3:45 a.m.

Until next time.
