April 19, 2005
Once again, it’s been months since my last update. Lots of things missed!
Ashlee is busy studying for finals. She still has her boyfriend in Canada, who she chats with too much. He was supposed to move back here in June, but now she’s saying July. It should be really interesting if he does move back here. Ashlee is upset because she has to have a new appliance put on her braces – and four days before her birthday. She’s not a happy camper. She’s very excited about turning 15, and wants me to teach her how to drive this summer. LOL Now THAT should be interesting! I think Driver’s Ed may be better for both of us. She started seeing a therapist about six weeks ago. It seems to be helping her deal with things. She’s become more social over the last few months, which is great. The mall is the destination of choice. She’s there almost every Friday night or Saturday with Cara and Ashley D.
The baseball season just ended for Michael. He had a pretty good season. He’s a little bummed and is already looking forward to fall ball. Last night Michael, Katie and I went to the Astros game. We had a good time. We got there early so he could watch batting practice. We had great seats -- right on the field behind third base. I had a first with Michael this week. I dropped him and a friend off at the library for an hour to do a school project. He would laugh at me that I’m mentioning that in this diary, but it was a big deal for me. I have to keep reminding myself that he’s almost 12. He’s really into rock music now. He discovers a new band almost weekly that he likes. For the last two weeks it’s Guns and Roses. I hear “Welcome to the Jungle” in my sleep. :-)
Katie has started playing a lot with the kids that live two houses down. She’s really into riding her bike now, and sometimes doesn’t even come in the house when she gets off the bus – it’s straight into the garage to get her bike. She’s still doing Girl Scouts. I was so proud of her last week. She had 109 accelerated reader points, and needed 115 to get her soaring eagle award. But the problem was, she only had two days to do it. So we hit the library and found a 4.0 book to read in one night, and her teacher had pulled a few one-point books for her to read the next day. My plan. Good one, huh? It took us almost two hours to read that book, but we did it. We were both bug-eyed afterwards. :-) She ended up that Friday with 115.9 points, and was presented the award during announcements on Monday. She was so proud. Go Katie!
The kids are getting excited because school is almost out again. I cannot believe it. The school year flew by. This summer is going to be a little different for us because I’m going to have to work more. But we’ll have a good one!
Until next time…
