Donna's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 11, 2002

The kids are doing great in school. Everyone is pretty much settled into the routine now. The fundraiser packets came home already. Sigh. Katie is so excited about selling it, though I don’t think she really understands. She’ll look through the catalog, point at certain items she likes and say, “I’m going to sell THIS.” I guess you can just buy what SHE likes.

I feel bad because we really haven’t done anything for Michael’s birthday yet. He didn’t want a party; he wants to go to the Astros game. So, we’ll have to make that happen. His birthday was on Labor Day, so we had a cake for him. My birthday was two days later, and we had another cake. I think we’re all caked out. :-)

Richard and I went to the Texans vs. Dallas game. It was so much fun. I told Richard the next morning that I haven’t had that much fun in a LONG time. A few minutes later he had this strange look on his face and said, “What do you mean you haven’t had fun in a long time?” Too funny. The kids stayed at Donna and Randy’s. We picked them up at 12:30 a.m. It went fine. No fighting or crying. Ashlee ended up staying home the next day because her “stomach hurt.” Yeah right.

Today was the one-year anniversary of September 11. The kids were asked to wear red, white and blue to school. I watched a little of the coverage on TV, but found it was making me sad and very unmotivated to do anything besides eat, so I turned it off. Katie came home singing the Lee Greenwood song “Proud to be An American,” which was very cute. She told me that being an American means that you’re happy where you live. :-)

Tonight I watched part of Ashlee’s acting class. What a neat class! I was very impressed and can’t wait to see the play. They painted some of the sets tonight and then worked on a new song and dance. In a couple months they’ll start performing it for hospitals and nursing homes. I can’t wait to see it.

Tomorrow is the Girl Scout Rally at Winborn. Katie wants to sign up. She’ll be a Daisy. She’s excited about joining, but wanted to know if she had to go “every day, like school.” I told her no, and she was glad.

Tomorrow is my last day home before my Cancun trip. My plane leaves at 7 a.m. on Friday. Yuck! I got my itinerary today, and it’s an action-packed five days. I’ll probably need a vacation once I get home.

Richard's been in Louisiana this week. He's due home any second. The kids tried to stay awake, but couldn't make it.

Until next time.
