Wow. So much has happened since my last entry! Let’s start with Cancun…
I had the best time! I couldn’t have asked for a better trip. I met the most interesting people and got to go to some of the beautiful places. Xcaret was incredible. We got to spend the entire day there. The highlight of that day was snorkeling in an underground river. Very cool! That evening we had dinner while we watched this incredible show with over 200 performers. We also went to Tres Rios, another eco-park. We got to snorkel twice here. We snorkeled down a river and ended up in the ocean, then took a boat out to a corral reef. We had to ride bikes to get around this park, which was fun. We also went to Sensorama, which was the most interesting experience of the that day. We were blind-folded and led into the jungle. I won’t go into details, but over an hour later we came out and couldn’t stop talking about the experience. Sunday was Mexico’s Independence Day, and we went to a show that evening, then about midnight went to this disco called Bulldog for another celebration. I was pooped by the time that day was over! Other highlights: a tequila tasting with Ricardo Cisneros, the first tequilaer is Mexico; dinner on the beach at the Ritz-Carlton (we got to hold newly hatched sea turtles – how cool is that?); a city tour; we visited two ruins – El Mecca and El Rey; and we ate at some of the best restaurants! The food was incredible. I got down to the beach twice. Pina coladas, Monkey Caribes (a banana drink), white sand and green water. What more could you ask for? I could go on and on…
I did find out one thing: Six days was too long for me to be away, for both the kids and I. I plan to travel more, but will be gone no longer than four, maybe just three, days.
I was in Chicago this weekend. This time I was only gone Friday through Sunday. I got to meet everyone I work with. Very cool. All of the iParenting editors made it, and even two writers. Four of us – Suzy, Michele, Lyn and I – went out for dinner Friday night. On Saturday we all had meetings at the office most of the day, which was so fun. There was Elisa, Alvin, Michele, Gwen, Lyn, Suzy, Julie, Belinda, Laurie, Shel, Kendeyl and C.J. That evening we all went out for an Italian dinner. A few of us walked part of the way, then took the subway the rest of the way. Gotta ride the subway at least one time in your life. :-) Chicago is a beautiful city! And the weather was great. On Sunday, we spent breakfast and lunch at the office, then went to the airport. I didn’t get home until 12:30 a.m., so I didn’t get to see the kids until Monday morning.
Richard and the kids had a great time while I was gone. They went bowling and to the mall on Saturday. When I called Saturday evening they were about to go out for ice cream. On Sunday, Katie had a birthday party at the skating rink. They all stayed with her and skated. One thing that they did do that was very strange was buy this three-story kitty condo. I walked in Sunday night and the first thing I saw was this THING in front of the window. My first thought was, “Oh my God. He got a kitten while I was gone.” He had heard me come in and came downstairs. The first thing I asked is if he had lost his mind and got a kitten while I was gone. Nope. He had lost his mind and bought this $40 condo “because Katie wanted it.” Wow. I wish I had that much power. And can you believe they were shocked that Bubbles didn’t play with it? Duh. He’s not a kitten. So guess what I did today after having lunch with Melissa and Jeffrey? I took it back.
I think I’m going to stick around here for a while now. I think my guidance is needed. ;-)
The kids got their report cards. Michael got all As. Katie did great (she doesn’t get number grades yet, of course). Ashlee did very well too – all As and Bs.
Katie did the funniest thing today at karate. We stayed and watched because the kids wanted to go to Jason’s Deli for dinner afterwards (Richard went out to dinner at P.F. Chang’s with Robin). I had taught Katie a cheer I used to do when I was a cheerleader the day before. It went like this: “We’re number one. We can’t be number two. We’re gonna beat the whoopee outta you!” Anyway, at karate she started to do this cheer. She said, “We’re number one. Not number two. We’re gonna beat the whoopee outta YA’LL.” It was so funny. She’s Texan, all right.
That’s about it for now. Until next time.
