November 12, 2002
Ashlee had another performance of her play Thursday night. She seemed more relaxed this time. It was just Katie, Ashlee and I (Richard stayed home with Michael who had a lot of homework), so we stopped by Café Del Sol for a bite to eat afterwards. I had planned to cook dinner, but ended up being gone all day at the Nutcracker Market. I left the house at 8:30 a.m., and didn’t get home until 6. I went with Donna (Little Randy’s mom), Donna (Big Randy’s mom) and Donna’s husband's sister and her husband. We had a great time. And even though we didn’t leave until almost 5, we still didn’t see the whole thing. I got home at 6 and had to leave at 6:15 for Ash’s play. It was a long – but fun – day. On Friday, I met Donna for lunch at Cracker Barrel. We ate, then shopped, then shopped some more. We’re on a roll!
Saturday morning Donna and I, with all four kids in tow, went to a craft show at a church across the street. Michael went home with Randy so he could go to his baseball game and then spend the night. Richard, Katie, Ashlee and I headed to Katy Mills for another performance of Ashlee’s play. This performance went a lot smoother than the one before. Katie just loves watching them, and has asked to take acting lessons too. I think she would be really good at it. After the play, Ashlee went home with Sarah, so it was just Katie, Richard and I. We went to Rainforest Café for dinner, then headed home. Ash ended up spending the night with Sarah, so Katie had our undivided attention, which she loved.
We went to Jillian’s on Sunday to watch the Texan game. It was really fun. We got there a little early so we could get a good table. At halftime, I walked the kids outside – they were having a tailgate party. We watched the band play, then the cheerleaders came out and did a dance. Katie, who was wearing her Texan cheerleader outfit, was mesmerized. After they danced Katie walked up to meet them. They put her in front of them and posed for a picture. And guess what? This was one of the few times I didn’t have my digital camera with me. It would have been such a cute picture! When we went back in, Michael won a T-shirt, and then all three of them won a Jillian’s game card. The game ended at 3, which was perfect timing because Michael had a birthday party at The Putting Edge at 3, which was right next door. We dropped him off, then went to Surfer’s Paradise, another restaurant, for dessert. Michael really enjoyed himself and all three kids want to go golf there soon. Everything was glow-in-the-dark. Very cool. After the party we went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Tootsie. Aunt Mary, Tina, Amanda and Mary Ruth were there. It’s been a while since we’ve seen them, so I’m glad we ran into them.
Tonight was our tenth Tuesday in a row to eat at Jason’s Deli. We went with Sandra again. I doubt very seriously we will go next week. I think I’m going to start the rule that you cannot eat out at the same restaurant on the same day for more than ten weeks. The eleventh must be skipped. Sound good? I signed Ashlee up for basketball today. She’s so excited about it. Sarah is also playing. At dinner, Sandra asked me what day would be good for me for practices (she wants to put our 2 cents in first with the coach). I told her the days that were bad for me: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. ;-) Sigh. Is there a good day?
Last night the phone rang at 10 p.m. It was Richard’s sister, Laura, telling us her water had just broke. This morning, I got a call from her about noon. She was already home. She had the baby at 12:30 a.m. The bad news is that she didn’t get to even see him. He had complications and was taken directly to another hospital and is in the NICU. Laura didn’t have many details (she seemed very out of it, which is understandable), and all I got out of her was that he had a couple spinal taps. Richard said his mom called him and told him the baby was critical. So, we’ve been waiting to hear from them. It’s almost 1 a.m., so we won’t hear anything tonight. Hopefully everything will work out.
Until next time.
