My Recent Trip to the Alps

J/K. But I swear to you, we might as well be in the mountains with all the SNOW we have had this winter!! Right now we are buried under another 10 inches again and more is on the way. UGH! I don’t know how much more of this I can take. A vacation in the Alps is NOT in my future anytime soon. We have had a total of 38 inches since the middle of December. That is NOT normal for as far south as we are!!! What is up?

SICK, SICK, AND MORE SICK

We’ve all been sick the past two weeks or so. Chris has been the healthiest of us all, but Ben started it. He got the stomach flu about two weeks ago, throwing up and all, and passed it on. I got sick next and it was horrible! I was throwing up, with a fever and all, despite the fact that I had received a Flu shot this year. Chris has somehow come down with Pink Eye and I was called at work today to come and get him immediately!!! When I got him and myself home, I phoned his doctor, but quickly realized that the clinic was closed due to the weather. (WHAT???) Ok, so I asked the answering service to have my doctor paged because I HAD to have a doctor’s note in order for Chris to go back to school tomorrow and I figured that we needed a prescription. She refused and said that it would have to be a DIRE emergency for them to page her. (WHAT???) I have switched doctors as of this morning. A doctor, in the clinic that I work for, worked Chris in today even though Chris isn’t even a patient of his!! I was very impressed. So, now we are treating this nasty virus. At this very moment, Andrew is also sick with goodness knows what….My poor family!

SCHOOL

Ben is doing fine and we are working more and more on his spelling words, reading together, etc., at home. I think he’s doing better. He’s actually writing more CORRECT sentences on his own now than he was 2 months ago. He’s not actually doing really well on his homework, so I am trying to pay more attention to his work that he is bringing home to help him out, encouraging him to read the directions OUT LOUD to me before doing anything. He doesn’t seem to always understand directions when given to him verbally the first time around. I am concerned about that because the teacher is starting to mark off points during class-time work.

Chris is really struggling. Some days are ok, but most other days are horrible. The other day I received a note from his teacher stating that he had lied to her about staying in class to finish his work and ended up stealing another kid’s toy out of his/her backpack! How terrible is that? I really had NO idea what to do with him. I didn’t find the note until the next day, so I told Andrew about it and begged him deal with it. Chris did get a spanking and a LONG talking to that day. He was pretty good in class after their talk, just for a day though. It goes up and down with him. We’re still waiting on the doctor’s report! Not sure how long that’s going to take. The more I talk about the problems we are having with Chris, the more my co-workers and friends lean toward advising us to put him on medication for his and the school’s sake. I am getting more and more information on it as I hear more about it from parents who have kids that are on meds for ADHD. We are still undecided, though. I have contacted our local church for information on family counseling. They told me that as long as our names are in their database, they can offer counseling sessions for free. I am very interested in talking to someone over there. It is a large church and they have several licensed counselors who are experts in dealing with children and these types of problems. My husband is VERY agreeable to this idea anyway. I would like to have the doctor’s report to accompany us, though, when we first meet with her. I will wait for it to make our appointment

That’s all for now. Until next time,

Heather, Ben, & Chris
