PREFACE
As some of you may already know, Chris was diagnosed with ADHD last January and was started on Strattera not long after that. Since then, we have had to increase the dosage a bit to get better results. This entry was written not long after that.
CHRIS
Chris has been doing much better since the increased dose of his medication. However, the teachers in After-Hours at school (from 3:30-6pm) decided that he was just too aggressive. After hitting another child, for no apparent reason, they decided that he could not come back. That was at the end of January. I was frantic. I didn’t know what to do. I was talking about it to a friend of mine who lives right across the street. She also has a 13-year-old son who is very responsible, who the kids absolutely love. She called me up a couple of days later and told me that her son, Derek, would LOVE to baby-sit the boys at our house after school. I was thrilled. So we have been doing that since the beginning of the month of February. So far so good.
BEN
Ben is doing SO much better with his reading. He was struggling for a while and I didn’t know what was going on. Apparently he was bringing home a paper each day from school that I was supposed to work with him on to prepare him for “reading challenges” the next day. Well, I didn’t know this. I was pretty negligent with this homework for several months. Finally, his teacher emailed me at work and told me that if I didn’t start helping him at home he would fail reading. I asked her what she was talking about and what I needed to do. When I finally figure it all out, I felt so stupid. Now, he has improved 100% and is getting all A’s on his spelling tests and is nearly caught up with his class on reading. Man, I felt awful!!!! I just had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.
The kids have been begging me to play basketball but I missed the sign up with the parks department in January. I think I will have to wait until next year. They both want to play hockey too but that is WAY too expensive. There is no way we could afford it right now.
CUTE SAYINGS
Yesterday was the first day Chris stood up for Ben but it wasn’t really at all an issue. They had a friend over who was teasing them and he said to Ben, “Well, I’m going to get you!” and laughed. Chris turned to him and said, “Hey that’s my brother and you WILL NOT get him!” I thought it was funny.
Today I told Chris that I thought he was so cute. Then I asked him why he was so cute, expecting a laugh or a giggle. He turns to me and very matter of factly says, “Mom, you think I am cute because I am your son” and then went right back to playing. Ooookay….. I told him that that was NOT at all true and that he was VERY cute anyway. But I really was expecting a very different answer from him. He always catches me off guard but he is so much fun to converse with.
Well, the boys will be 8 and 7 this May. I am shocked at how quickly they have grown!!! It amazes me.
That’s all for now. Until next time,
Me
