Jenna's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
January 4, 2002
Happy New Years! Again I should apologize for taking so long to write, but that usually takes us my entire entry, so I'll skip it this time. Kirk's 6 weeks of winter break is nearly at an end. He's spent the entire time, here in Georgia. I've been here for quite some time, too. We've been enjoying the company of our families. We have, as we do every Christmas, visited with all parts of the family. We went and had a get together in Douglasville with Wes' mom's family. It was very nice. His grandmother is in poor health and it was good to spend time with her. She told me that she was "just waiting to see [my children] again." I'm hoping it was not meant how I took it. She had a heart attack just two months ago. We were all worried, but she seems to be doing well. Wes' aunts and uncles are delightful. I have the most difficulty keeping all their names strait, though. I absolutely LOVE his extended family. Kirk, and the babies got fleece blankets from grandma-grandma. They had been "personalized" (Wes' aunt Joyce has one of those sewing machines that can sew little pictures and words and such and she did this for grandma-grandma. I don't know what it is called.) On the corner was "written" Grandma-grandma loves Kirk Christmas 2001. It is such a nice gift. Kirk's is navy blue.
On Christmas day we celebrated with my parents and sisters. Santa brought Kirk the red and white Bionicles that he so desperately wanted. He also left a big bowl full of fruit and nuts, which the entire family has enjoyed. Kirk got Shoots and Ladders from Wes and I. My mom admitted she shopped like she was the only person buying for my kids this year. Kirk got clothes, a model kit--an F-16--a remote control truck and I can't remember what all else.
It is part of my family's tradition to have a big Christmas breakfast and we did. A few hours later we went to Wes' parent's house and opened presents with them. Again the kids got a lot. Kirk got an electric guitar and Aaron got a skateboard. Anne got Barbie stuff.
Later Christmas evening we went to my grandparents' house--they live next door to my parents--and exchanged gifts. Kirk got something to do with cars--a racetrack or something. I can't keep up.
The next weekend we drove to Franklin, TN to celebrate with my maternal grandparents. Wes couldn't make it. He was going to come late, but on the way he lost his wallet and all his money and didn't even have the gas in the car to make it. He wasn't too far from home yet, so he just turned back. Kirk got walkie-talkie watches and a bug robot thing. Wes got a bug thing to. They interact with each other. I thought it was too cute that my two big boys got matching gifts.
We just had two full days of snow. We haven't seen this much white stuff since 1993 and then it was mostly ice. My kids have had a blast. It's stopped snowing now, but it hasn't melted. It is amazing. I was at work the first day, but yesterday I played with the kids for a while. Anne--my tiny 2 year old threw snowballs at me! Kirk, Aaron, and my sister Melanie build and snow man, a snow fort, and a giant snow dog. My dad found a recipe for "snow cream" on line. We ate that, drank hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows. It was the perfect winter day. One at a time my children staggered in wet and cold. Anne came in first. She cried. It took some real convincing to get her in and then once inside she wasn't very keen on the idea of taking off her outerwear. I finally got her dry and warm. About an hour later Aaron came in and finally Kirk came in soaked through. Of course a few hours later they were back out again.
Did I ever tell you that Wes is in Georgia working on a movie? It's called Vicious. It's a low budget horror film, and it looks pretty good. They've been invited to attend some horror convention in New York this weekend as guests and speak on a panel. They are too excited. Am I going? Of course not. Someone has to watch the kids, right? Right. I don't mind, though. Oh, BTW I have a role in this movie. They put me in as an assistant to Col. Hardwick who is played by Marco St. John. He was in Thelma and Louise. He was the truck driver whose truck got blown to bits. Well, get this. Have you ever played the Six degrees of Kevin Bacon game? You have to connect some actor to Kevin Bacon within 6 steps. Well here's one for you Jenna was in Vicious with Marco St. John who was in Thelma and Louise with Susan Sarandon (no, I can't spell it and I don't feel like looking it up.) Susan was in Step Mother with Julia Roberts who played alongside Kevin Bacon in Flat Liners. Ladies and gentlemen that was Jenna being Baconized in 4 steps. I know that is really silly, but I think it is cool.
Well, we'll be in Georgia for a few more weeks for the premier of Vicious and then we'll be back in Lancaster. I dread the trip. It'll take all day to fly out to LA and then commute up to the Antelope Valley. Well, I think I have about made up for the time I haven't written. If anyone actually reads all this let me know so that I can publicly congratulate you on your dedication and perseverance.
Jenna
