Jenna's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

March 15, 2001

Hello, everyone. I have only been on this trip for three days now, but it feels like it has been a week already. I am ready to get home and get Kirk back in school. He has not been bad, don't get me wrong. I'm basically by my self with all three kids and it hasn't all been a ball. I've visited DH on set and that was a blast. They are filming in an abandoned prison and it is fabulous! I love old creepy stuff and this is old and creepy and wonderful. The cells all still have the doors and bunks. The ceilings are low and it is pretty dark. There is something about the building that makes your heart race. How fun. I'd love to say on set and just hang out. Too bad I have kids, huh? LOL
Right now the kids are sitting in the living room in little chair at a little table eating cookies--that I over cooked and won't eat myself--and watching Nick. They've all had fun today. We spent an hour at the park this afternoon. They had never been to this one and so it was quite an adventure. If the weather permits, we'll go again tomorrow. Maybe we'll take a lunch.
Do you remember the show Newhart? Do you remember Larry, Darryl and Daryl? Larry was plaid by William Sanderson. I met him today. He seems very nice. He is one of the leads in this movie DH is working on. Do you know Tom Savini of horror fame? He was also on The Simpson a few months back. DH has been hanging out with him all day. My husband is hanging out with celebs and I am burning cookies. Isn't that the story of my life? The funny thing is that Wes doesn't care one way or the other. When he was working out in LA he met a lot of real celebrities and it was no biggie. Me, I would have so geeked out, you know? He's so cute that way.
I just had a broken glass and a dirty diaper to deal with. That makes me really wish DH was here.
Kirk's teacher sent home a travel folder with him for this week. I expected an actually folder containing his work, but instead I got a sort of booklet with little fun assignments that can be done to go along with our trip. On the fist page Kirk fills out the date of his trip where he's going and why and who went with him. The next page is a Health assignment. On this page he records his meals and snacks for one days and makes note of the date and weather. Next is Science. On this page he records different animals he sees on the trip. This page will be fun because we are very very near lots of farm country. Safety is the fourth page. We talk about fire safety, what to do if he gets lost, and how to protect himself from sunburn. Fifth is Math--we're saving this page for our trip home. He picks a half hour of the trip and keeps track of the number of red, white, and blue cars he sees. Then he answers some questions about the results. Language Arts is another good one--it is his diary. He is to draw a picture of one good thing from his trip and write about it. The last page for Kirk to do is Souvenirs. He attaches things such as pictures, postcards, etc onto this page. Kirk has one souvenir that he won't be able to glue down. It is a very large piece of fossilized coral. The prison in which they are filming is built on top of what used to be the ocean floor. There is a place on the grounds that is covered in coral fossils and another--which Kurt, one of the actors and an avid fossil hunter discovered--was a breeding ground for prehistoric lobster. We saw a protolobster fossil that was 4 feet long. Kirk was pretty impressed. The final page of Kirk's Travel Folder is a note from his teacher saying that they--his class and teachers--love and miss him and hope he returns safely. Isn't that cool? It has made vacation homework so much fun.
I know I've written too much. People hate long diary entries, so I'm sorry about that. Have a great rest of the week! Check back soon.
