I now have a list of social rules to live by. Kissing is off limits outside the bounds of the house--or inside if there are guest over. I can sometimes gets public kisses, but only if there is no one around. Hugging is okay, for now.
Not only can I not kiss Kirk, I can't say "kiss" either. Kiss is officially a four letter word. If I slip up and say it, I get an evil look and sometimes a low growl. When he growls, I know I'm in trouble.
Kiss is not the only thing I can't say. This one is probably my fault because I pushed it. I can't call him by pet names. Really I can get by with this one so long as I don't use really embarrassing ones like sugar buns. I like that one, but it is taboo.
The final rule thus far is: No saying "I love you" in public. This one, too is dependent on his mood and how I use it. I can usually get away with it--so long as I don't expect a response--but if I've just blatantly broken one of the previous rules, I better not go here either.
I know what your thinking. "Only four rules? That is a short list." I know it is, but it has been compiled over just two weeks. I'm afraid to see what will happen in the next few months if I'm not careful. The rules don't really bother me. I like them because they are just a reminder of what a wonder age Kirk is in. Besides, when he does give me a public kiss, it is all the more special.
On Wednesday, I got an early Mother's Day gift from Kirk. Let me give you a little background, before I tell you what I got. On Wednesday nights, our church has Caravans. It is their scouting program for boys and girls. Each week the kids earn points for wearing their uniform, bringing their Bible, completing tasks, obeying, etc. Once a month, Kirk's class goes to the store. There they get to spend the points they have earned or they can keep saving. Last Wednesday, Kirk has 200 points to spend. He bought a Toy Story puzzle, a lego set & a shovel and pail. I was pretty impressed when I saw what all he'd got. Then he told me that he also bought something for me. Out of his pocket he pulled a ring. It is one of those toy rings made of some sort of cheap metal and painted gold and it has a red plastic jewel in the center. I was thrilled. I told him how beautiful it was and how much I loved it. I have worn it ever since. I think after Mother's Day I'll have to put it away so that I can keep it forever. He has said, however, that he'll give it to his wife when he gets married. I think I'll let him.
There is one more thing I want to tell you about the ring. Kirk is such a man. Remember how I told you he had 200 points and he bought three other big things? Well, Kirk swears that the ring cost him 100 points! He is such a man!
Kirk also made me an early Mother's Day card. It has his name written in very fancy letters on the back and the picture on the front is me standing outside and there are three thought bubbles coming from me. Two of them have hearts with a cross in them and that means that Jesus loves me. The other one says "I love you mom mama" and it's in a heart, too. There is still a week to go and this is my best Mother's Day yet! I feel so special!
