Introduction

Hi everyone and Merry Christmas!
Well, I will get right to it. Dean has been having some major problems with behavior, and it has been a really tough couple of months. In the last month, he has been suspended off of the bus twice, and been sent to the principal's office 6 times this school year. We try to talk to him about his behavior, and I really feel like he just totally zones out and regurgitates answers that he thinks that we want to hear. SO FRUSTRATING!
My boss' wife is a behavioralist, and she works very close with the school system. She has been talking to me and my husband about what's going on with him. He is basically very agressive, and very impulsive. 2 things that don't mesh well. So on her advice, we are trying positive reimforcement, he will no longer be riding the bus (too wild, and a problem area for him) and we are helping him to create a plan. By that I mean, "instead of hitting when I get angry, what am I going to do instead when I feel like hitting?" There is also some discussion of temporary meds for the impulsive behavior, if we can't get it to get better with the other methods. I am a bit unsure, but if that's what it takes in the end, then so be it. It just kills me that he really is haveing a hard time with his friends. They don't like him much, as you can imagine.
I hope that we can get this better now. I really want school to be pleasent. The boy is so smart, and he really has so much potential to be an amazing adult, and I don't want the problems that he is having to turn him off from learning.
Over Tanksgiving, his uncle taught him how to play Blackjack. Let me tell you, the kid is good! He plays so well, I almost want to take him to Vegas!
Christmas was fun. The boys both got a ton of stuff. I think they are very happy. I cooked my first Turkey, and it was Delicious! It was nice to have all the family gathered around, and we really all had a great time.
That's about it. I will try to be more diligent about writing.
Bye!
Karen
