Leanne's Diary Entries

November 16, 1999

Hello everyone and welcome to my first "official" CT journal entry. I have lots to say....

Our week has been, as always, busy. Monday night Jade had dance class for two hours. She takes jazz for the first hour and ballet for the next. She really enjoys it. She has been dancing since she was three years old and has been doing very well. She has done competitions (in Jazz) for the past two years. Two large group competitions (bronze and silver) and last year her first duo (silver) with her friend, Brooke. They were so cute. They did the "Stray Cat Strut." They were cats, one white, the other a copper color, with leather motorcycle jackets and caps -- with ears. The choreography was great. This year she is doing her very first solo in the "demi-character" category. This is basically ballet with a twist. She is very excited.

Tuesday brought us lots of homework and what appears to be the beginnings of another cold.

Wednesday, Jade only had a half-day of school, so she went to daycare for the other half. She really enjoys going. Their school-age program is great. I had classes (ever striving for higher education) that evening for two hours.

Thursday was Remembrance Day (an optional Canadian holiday) so I had the option of staying at home or going to work -- hmmmm what do you think I did? I got to play house (her absolute favorite game in the whole world) with Jade all day. The scenario is always like this: I am the busy working mom, she is big sister Krystal. I am always having babies, she is always taking care of them because I work or go shopping. We have hundreds of pets (often in the form of beanie babies), and we are rich. She drives a car because in the game she is ten and therefore old enough to drive. This slays me every time. Her imagination is so wonderful. Hard to believe this child can be soooo trying some days.

Friday brought work for me and another day off for Jade. She got to spend the whole day at daycare as a special helper in the preschool program. She was thrilled. That night I had to work a bingo (I work one approximately every third/fourth Friday) at her school (Catholic school, bingo...you know).

Saturday morning is swimming, she is now in Level 5 and doing, well, not so great. She was excelling up to this point but seems to have run into a road block. She cannot get the breathing techniques down for the front crawl and always looks as though she is drowning -- this will hold her back. Personally, I don't have a problem with that -- children should not be allowed to move into the next level of swimming unless they really know their stuff. Safety is what it is all about. Saturday afternoon brings us to dance (one hour jazz, one hour tap and one hour ballet) and then home for supper. Sigh...

Sunday has us in church in the morning and playing catch-up the rest of the day. Groceries, cleaning, family visits, etc....

Fun, fun, fun....

On child/parent relations this week, all has been going very well. Jade has managed to keep all other personalities at bay and I have had only the beautiful, loving, sweet child to deal with. This is good because I have been very weepy and touchy this week. The only battle of wills has been over what to wear. Very fussy and although she wears a uniform for school the material has to feel, look, hang and touch her skin just so. An issue I am sure you are all familiar with.

Last night Jade had dance and threw up in class, apparently she wasn't feeling well and the teacher didn't believe her. Tonight she has a dentist appointment -- another tooth has to be pulled. As for the rest of the week...let's see what happens.

Wow, have I ever babbled on. Are you awake?! I apologize for the long entry but I wanted to give you a bit more insight into our weekly dynamics so that as I approach certain topics you will know where they fit it. I promise I will not make every entry like this one.

Till next time, all the best, Leanne
