November 23, 1999
Well, it has been another busy week filled with school, homework, dance
class, night classes and swimming. All those things that prevent me from
staying home and enjoying an evening curled up on my couch, eating junk
food and watching mindless television shows. Sighhhh.
On Friday report cards came home and surprise, surprise, I find out that my
daughter talks too much. She is just a little busybody who loves to visit
and chat with all her friends. Tragic! That is what every one of my report
cards said from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Oh well, at least she comes by it
honestly. I still had to give her the "please mind your own business and
try not to talk so much in class" talk just like parents gave me years ago.
On the flip side, she is doing very well. A nice balance of VG's, G's and
two S's. She is convinced for some reason that I am not pleased with her
report card even though I have told her I am. Ohhh the drama. I am
scheduled to meet with her teacher this Thursday, should be fun.
While on the topic of school here is a story for you. Last week at recess a
grade five student at our school took my daughter's jacket, tossed it in
the air, let it fall in the gravel, stomped on it that proceeded to spit in
it. Ewww gross. My daughter was devastated, and I was completely disgusted
and angry. My revenge, the little gob-hocker has to pay for dry cleaning,
and his parents are furious with him.
Saturday's swimming class went a little better, she still looks like she is
drowning but I believe she is gaining a bit more confidence. Jade is so
funny, when she walks by the parents observation room she will often make a
funny face, or dance by, or do some silly little kid thing that makes all
laugh, she is really quite the little actress.
Dance class was good. While the children were dancing, the parents were
deeply engrossed in a Parents Association meeting. We went over all the
goals of the dance studio for the year and talked about the upcoming
workshops and festivals. The teacher is working with the children on their
Character work (ballet) for the upcoming ballet examinations in February.
Jade actually has to audition to take her exam this year, a first, as we
never had to do that before, and the ballet auditions are being held on
December 12, her birthday. Yuk!
Speaking of birthdays, the big day is coming soon and we finally found
something she would like to do. We are going on a sleigh/hay-ride and
weiner roast. We still don't have any snow here in Winnipeg (amazing since
it is normally -30 degrees at this time of the year) and are still
experiencing temperatures way above normal. If there is no snow or not
enough snow, we will do the tractor/hay ride and if there is snow we will
do the horse/sleigh ride. Snow would be nice. Everyone is very excited,
especially the birthday girl. Both of us ride horses and although we
haven't been as often as we would have liked this year, it is something
that we share a love for.
Saturday night Jade went swimming again, this time for a friend's birthday
party. The parents invited approximately 30 children!!! Brave souls --
don't worry, there were life guards and the children were all somewhat well
behaved. By the time the party was over at 8:00 p.m., Jade was whacked. She
could hardly keep her eyes open, she was asleep before she hit the sheets.
I cleaned up a bit, gave some attention to my son (aka Murphy the dog) and
sat down to watch some TV with a nice glass of wine. Ahhhhh quiet.
Sunday was quiet. Jade and I did some preparation for her "Sacrament of
First Penance" (aka Catholic confession) this coming Saturday (the 27th)
and then went grocery shopping. Later that day, we went for a family supper
at my parents house. Jade was to help Grandma and Grandpa put up the
Christmas tree but it took almost two hours for them to get the lights on
"just so." By then it was bedtime, so home we went.
That was our week in a nutshell. Not too exciting, but always busy. It's
Thanksgiving in the U.S. this week on the 25th, so everyone eat and be
merry.
Until next time all the best, stay well and have fun.
Leanne
