Paris's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

May 28, 2001

I am so proud of my Munch-a-bunch! He wrote his first sentence today! Yay! It wasn't a big composition or anything but a sentence it was! He wrote, "I saw." Ha! Great eh? I saw. Alex's first sentence. I am so proud! I figured this was noteworthy enough to need it's own entry! :0)

I don't know what I would do without being able to read or write and it's so important to me to have my children learn this. I imagine it is with all of us but there are so many people who can't read or write. I couldn't even imagine. We take it for granted. I know someone that can't read or write and for me it's so hard to understand why he can't. To me reading and writing is like walking and talking. It's just always been there.

I think it's incredibly important for all of us to make sure our children are learning these skills properly. Not everyone does. It's not always easy. Some kids coast through school and I've heard of teacher's passing them just because they don't want to have to deal with them. That's horrible. That's nothing but a disgrace to the teaching profession. Nevermind the damage it can do to that child. I would hate to see any child coast through school.

I think that's why today was so thrilling for me! Alex wrote his first sentence! While a lot of the time we don't want them to grow up, I am just so proud! I want to be able to look at him one day as this big, grown man and say, "Wow, I did that!" What better accomplishment? I don't think there is anything better. He can look back then and say, "Thanks Mom, I learned, I grew", and just like today, "I saw."

I just hope it doesn't happen too soon. :0)

Take care and keep smiling!

Paris and the Monster Munch Alex! :0)
