Paris's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
July 26, 2001
I am back from my vacation and I had an absolutely wonderful time! The kids have been pretty hyper the last few days since my return. I brought them TONS of presents and souvenirs. Alex did, however, get an extra special one that I wanted to tell you about.
We all know I can be a little nutty from time to time but once in a while it really pays off! My friend, Dallys, and I went to a Blue Jays game in Toronto. She collects balls from the games she attends. We decided to head over to the bullpen to see if we could get the players to throw her a ball. I decided I would kind of like one as well. I can't stand if someone has something and I don't! ha ha! So, the two of us stood there harrassing these Blue Jays until, yes, we both did get a ball. She got hers from a catcher and I got mine from a pitcher. :0) I was really excited because Alex is a huge baseball fan. It's not something I've ever promoted, he just loves it!
When I got home, I hid the ball. In the morning, I logged on and went to the Blue Jays website. I found the player that gave me the ball (I told him it was for my son). Alex came upstairs and I asked him to come over to the computer because I wanted to show him something. I had the ball hidden in my lap. :0) Here is how the conversation went:
Me: "Do you see this bird and these words here? Do you know what that is?"
Alex: "Yeah, that's the Blue Jays."
Me: "Do you see this guy here?"
Alex: "Yeah, he's a player."
Me: "Do you know what he gave me to give to you?"
Alex: "No."
Me: (as I toss him the ball) "This."
I swear his jaw almost hit the floor and his eyes were as big as dinner plates! It was so cute! He ran around screaming, "Oh, my god! Oh, my god!" Ha ha! It was a ball that was used a bit too - not a brand new one. There was some dirt on it. All the guys in the neighbourhood were a bit jealous I think. They were all checking it out! It says Official Major League Baseball. Pretty cool souvenir for a 6-year old!
Peter is taking it to get it mounted on a little trophy for Alex. I did let him play with it a bit and I know if we don't get it up on something, it'll get lost. The little plaque will say, "Thrown to Mommy for Alex by #51, Pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, July 19, 2001!" Dallys and I actually had to look up which players threw us the balls because they had jackets on and we couldn't read their names. Alex wanted to send an e-mail thanking him for the ball. I really should take him to a game when we go back for another visit - now that I know how to get a ball! ;0)
Happy weeks to everyone!
Keep smiling!
Paris and Alex (future Toronto Blue Jay - as he says) :0)
