Happy Friday to my faithful readers!
Well, it has certainly been an interesting week, to say the least. The funeral for my grandpa was very nice. “Perfect golfin’ weather,” as he would say. It was absolutely wonderful to see so much of my family that I have not been able to see for a long time. I have 3 cousins that I haven’t seen in 14 years and it was like old times, just now we are all adults instead of 10-16. We went out and toasted to grandpa.
On the day of the funeral, I received another blow. My parents have decided to get divorced. Kinda scary. They’ve been married for 20 years and it’s really sad to see that happen. I’ve always based my relationships from their example. I can’t do that anymore and I feel like I’ve lost my foundation. I just need to get re-centered and grounded. My dad just isn’t happy and doesn’t think it’s fair to mom to be with her just for the sake of staying together. He assures us no one else is in his life and he still loves mom, but I think that with grandpa dying and daddy turned 50 last month, he’s just going through a mid-life crisis and he’s completely lost within himself. It will be very hard to watch them for the next few months while everything gets sorted out.
In light of everything going on, we are probably going to move the wedding back a few months. There is just way too many emotions and chaos flowing through the family right now and it just needs to wait for a few months. It’s okay though since we haven’t put money down on anything yet. Good news, though. I found my wedding dress and a DJ. My sister’s boyfriend (wonderful guy) will probably do it for me. I have to ask him still, but I can’t imagine him saying no.
Over the weekend, Brannen and I went to Illinois to see his dad, step-mom and sisters. His grandma had a stroke not too long ago, so that was the main reason of the visit. This was my first meeting with them and they are all very cool people. His sisters are both the same age as my younger sisters, so it was very easy to communicate and get along with them. Brannen is just like his dad, which is perfectly wonderful. We were only going to spend the day with them, but after 30 minutes of being there, his dad asked if we were going to stay until Sunday. Of course I said yes! We got back late Sunday night and Monday morning, I had to drive to Iowa for grandpa. This past week/weekend has just been crazy-filled.
These diary entries have been pretty depressing lately and for that I am sorry. Joey will be back from his dad’s house in 2 weeks and I can’t wait for my baby to be home!! I know he’s getting anxious to come home and get back to school. It’s been one hell of a summer so far.
Another good thing, I went to the Jimmy Buffet concert last night and it was an absolute blast! I haven’t been to a concert in about 5 years and wow!! I was able to blow off some steam and have a few drinks and just enjoy the music. Brannen won the tickets off the radio last week and since my birthday is tomorrow (29!!), we went ahead and just made a day of the whole thing. Needless to say, I am a little tired to be at work today since I had to be here at 7. This is my first day back since last Friday and I’ve only spent 2 nights in my bed out of the last 7 days. I am very happy to be back home and I’m going to just focus on myself for a while and spend some time getting my own feelings back in order.
Well, that is about it for now. If you’re still sticking with me, thank you very much. It is much appreciated. I hope everyone has a great day and a wonderful weekend.
Take care,
Rachel
