Hello and happy Tuesday to everyone in cyberland. Things are going pretty smoothly for a change. Joey is doing pretty good in school and Brannen and I are plugging away at life. My car is in the crapper at the moment, so we’re babying it as we drive, hoping to eek out a few extra miles as it putters and spurts down the road at top speed of 33 mph.
Good news, my ex husband called me last night (finally) and told me that he’s going to pay child support out of his pocket instead of sending it through the court. He’s working for a company that he used to work for and they screwed me out of money more than a year ago. His boss (also the owner and payroll person) would take child support payments out of his check, but then not send me the money. Well, Scott (ex) wouldn’t believe me and he just always let it go. Now he’s working for them again and it’s happening again, so he’s finally wising up to the situation. Also, his dental insurance was cancelled, but the company said that there was just a problem with the system. So, imagine how it’s just such a coincidence that his company is doing it again, and to more people. I will be taking care of things on my end to alleviate this problem once and for all. By the time this is all said and done, we’re talking over $2000. I can really use that money!
We have our first parent-teacher conference this week. Should be interesting. Joey is doing good and he’s happy. But, 1st grade is a lot harder than it was in kindergarten. He’s warming up to it more. He’s just not used to having to work so hard. Most days everything clicks in his head, but last night, he just wasn’t getting it. Between math and reading, it can be a very frustrating time on both ends. He understands the material well enough, but he’s tired after school and just doesn’t want to try anymore. I don’t blame him, I don’t want to have to bring my work home from work and do more. We’ve tried to alter homework time so it’s not right when he gets home, but that doesn’t really seem to make any difference. It’s usually only twice a week, so we just muddle through it. When I talk to his teacher, I’m going to ask her about assisted reading with him, if she would recommend it. I don’t want reading to be a struggle for him. Both Brannen and I are such huge readers and we both read at an early age. I’m just not sure what else to do to help him. Some days he gets it and others, he just gives up because he doesn’t want to try. Any suggestions?
More on Joseph, I’m taking him to the doctor’s in a couple of weeks for his physical and stuff. I’m going to talk to his pediatrician (sweetest woman on the planet) and see if we can try DDAVP again, to help with his bedwetting. We’ve been trying Yu-Gi-Oh cards this week for an incentive, but he’s only stayed dry one night out of the last three. He took the medicine when he was younger, but he really was too young for it to be effective. So we’ll try that again and see if it makes any difference.
We had a nice birthday party on the 27th for Joey. He got tons of Yu-Gi-Oh cards and games. More toys than you can shake a stick at. His Aunt Carey and Aunt Ally got him a Pokemon cake, which he just absolutely loved! We had pizza, cake and ice cream and then we opened presents and hung out for a bit. My sister Sara had to leave early since she had to work, so everyone left around the same time. Joey loved his fishing game that we got, but Brannen ends up playing it more than anyone since it’s portable. It’s cute.
I’m still working on TTC. I’m ovulating right now (my left side hurts) and I’m eating some peanut M&Ms to make me feel better. :-) They usually do the trick!
Even though we are in Indiana, the hurricane in Florida is affecting us at the moment. Brannen’s daughter, Shelby, lives in Panama Beach City with her mom and step-dad and they’re in the path of the storm at the moment. They just moved into a brand new house they built (just 2 months ago) and so we’re watching and praying that it misses them or at least causes minimal damage. They were very lucky that the last one missed them.
Other than that, there’s really not a whole lot going on right now. I’m looking forward to the fall, just having the cooler weather and watching the leaves change. We went down to the river the other day, off the beaten path and we took slings that Brannen made and flung rocks into the water and then we walked along the trail for a bit. It was a nice afternoon. We went right after work, on the way home. Joey was still in his school uniform and I was still dressed from work, but it couldn’t have been a more perfect afternoon to just enjoy the fresh air and some quiet.
As always, feel free to post in my TTM board. It stays pretty empty, with the exception of Maggie (thanks, Maggie!!). Anything useful would be appreciated, even if it is from an earlier post. I’m always looking for ways to improve myself.
Take care to everyone and enjoy this gorgeous fall weather!
Rachel
