October 20, 2004—I’m Getting Married!!
Hello to all! I’m getting married in about 5 hours!! I’m so excited!! Brannen’s mom and I went and got me a white knit dress (almost floor length, short sleeve) last night. It has a row of buttons down the front and there is a small rose on each button. It is absolutely gorgeous! Brannen is wearing his khaki pants, a white shirt, and his waistcoat that we got him last year (brown). I shaved his head on Monday night, minus his scalp lock (he’s part Indian on both sides of his family). I’m carrying his mom’s bible and he’s getting his dad’s wedding ring (passed away 4 years ago). The ceremony will be at the courthouse and then his mom and her fiancée are taking us out to dinner afterwards. It will just be a simple ceremony, which is fine with us. As we were driving in the car last night, Brannen looks at me and says, “I am so happy that I get to marry you”. Of course I got all teary-eyed and told him I loved him. We are just ecstatic. We are waiting until November 5 to take our honeymoon, which will be a cross-country trip to Portland, Oregon, which is where we will be moving to. We’ll be camping the entire way in his teepee and I can’t wait!!
Our lives have changed and grown so much this past 11 months together and I have treasured every minute we’ve had together, despite some major stumbling blocks. After dating only 3 weeks, I fell and broke my arm severely and he took such good care of me through my surgery and 3 months of recovery while also watching Joseph for me when I couldn’t care for him myself. I knew then that if we could handle that, we could handle anything. It was tested again this past July when my grandpa died and my parents told me that they were getting divorced on the same day. That was a very hard and emotional time for me, but he helped me through it and for that, I am eternally grateful. He has been my heart and soul and I just couldn’t imagine being anywhere in life without him. He has been my rock and pillar of strength and support.
We are both very anxious and excited about our trip out to Oregon. Hell, we don’t even care if we break down somewhere and get stranded for a week! We’ll make it past that because we have each other. We have both spent a lot of years looking for the right person and his mom, of all people, plucked us out together and we now have the other for the rest of our lives. Can ya tell I’m happy!?!?
Well, I’ll update probably tomorrow and let you know how the wedding went and all that good stuff. We’re not doing anything tonight, minus going out for supper because we’re saving our pennies for our long road trip.
Love to all,
Rachel (soon to be) Carter :-)
