Today, Ariana is 8 years old. I do NOT know where the time has gone, it seems like only yesterday I was straggling out of my hospital room in that oh-so-fashionable pink gown, heading down to the nursery to help give my tiny new baby daughter her first bath. And now? She is huge. She is in size 7/8 clothes, worried about styles and hair-do's, and begging to get her ears pierced. I am not sure how she got so big, but I do NOT remember giving her permission to do so.
Yesterday we had her birthday party. Ari's Aunt Darlene volunteered her house and her hot tub for the party. (She is a brave woman.) Ari had her 3 best friends from school, her 2 cousins (they are very close friends), and Bryce as her guests, along with assorted grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. The kids splashed and played in the hot tub for quite some time, and then everyone got dried off and we moved on to cake and ice cream. After treats, Ari opened presents. She made out like a bandit. She got 2 videos (Return to Neverland, and Road to El Dorado), the Lilo and Stitch Soundtrack, several books, 2 necklaces, a stuffed white tiger, and BOATLOADS of clothes. James and I got her an 18" American Girls-like doll, with brown hair and brown eyes just like Ari's. We even bought the doll a tiny pair of glasses so she would be JUST like Ari. I got the doll several outfits, and my mom made 3 GORGEOUS party dresses for the doll (she sews like a pro) and also a tiny little pair of blue flannel pajamas for the doll. Ariana LOVES her doll, and has christened her "Jennifer". She had a great birthday.
I just have to share how my night went the night before Ariana's birthday. My schedule looked something like this:
9:00 PM- My friend Julie came over. She was bored (her son was with his dad this weekend) and wanted to hang out or watch a movie or something.
9:30 PM- Got both kids in bed and asleep.
10:00 PM- We decided to watch The Mummy.
12:00 AM- Movie is done, but we want to check something out online so we hop on the net and surf for a while.
12:30 AM- Julie heads home.
1:00 AM- I go to bed and go to sleep.
4:45 AM- The alarm goes off. DH James has made plans to go cut and haul a load of firewood AND do a little bird hunting with his grandpa and uncle. They want to get an early start. He fumbles around in the dark showering, making coffee, and getting ready.
5:25 AM- I have JUST fallen back asleep when the phone rings. It is James's grandpa. "Has Jimmy left yet?" he asks. "Oh wait, never mind, here he comes up the driveway now. Bye." CLICK.
5:26 AM- I spend a few minutes trying to convince myself that I really DON'T want DH and his grandfather to accidentally shoot eachother instead of pheasants today.
6:25 AM- Alyssa is awake and yelling for her bottle.
6:45 AM- Alyssa is awake and yelling for her Blue's Clues tape to be turned on.
7:05 AM- Alyssa comes into my room, crawls into bed with me and falls back asleep, with her diapered little bum snuggled against my chest. All is right with the world. :)
7:25 AM- Ariana is awake, and wants breakfast. Time to get up. *sigh*
I think at some point I may have slept for a few hours. Maybe.
School is back in full swing now. Alyssa is adjusting very well. She seems to remember being there last year, and I am really impressed at how good she is doing, for a VERY BUSY 2 year old. Ariana is loving school, and doing great. Swimming lessons start tomorrow. For 10 weeks the students will be bussed twice a week to our local health club and take lessons through the Swim for Life program.
Well, that's about it from our house this week. I hope everyone has a great week, and I will look for you on my TTM board!! *HINT, HINT* :)
