Introduction
Hi everyone!
Let me begin by saying that I hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful and blessed holiday season! Ours was pretty nice, despite the fact that I have had almost NO Christmas spirit this year. Bah humbug, I say... Bah.
I had my first OB appointment yesterday... with a new OB, no less! My old doc decided to retire. :(( I mean, he is *only* 73, right?? :) I didn't actually see my new Dr yesterday, I saw his nurse practitioner, who I was none too thrilled with, to say the least. I hope I will like the Doc, or I may find myself back in the OB hunt again.
The appointment got off to a rotten start... I had blood in my urine sample, so they wanted another. How, may I ask, am I supposed to produce another sample 10 minutes after producing the first?? It's not like I held some back or something. Anyhow, they have sent the sample off to be cultured to see if I have an infection or something. Then they took my blood pressure, and it was fine. They took the requisite 6 vials of blood, and gave me my goodie bag with all the magazines and coupons and stuff. Then I was told to strip down for the internal exam and Pap. Bleck. The good news is that, according to the NP, I "feel" like I am 10 weeks along, and she was able to find the heartbeat (YAY! SUCH a wonderful sound) and said everything sounded good. I got dressed again, and then the NP came back into the room and from there our relationship went downhill.
She is WAY into Gestational Diabetes prevention... which I don't have a problem with in theory.. and since I am overweight I got to be her poster child for the afternoon. Now, had she bothered to check my chart she might have seen that I have birthed two perfectly healthy children, both of normal birthweight, and that I have NEVER in my life had a problem with diabetes, including passing both of my previous GD tests with flying colors. She might also have noted that I have been the weight that I am for most of my life, that my BP is usually fine (except for the final months of a PG), and that I tend to gain NO weight when pregnant. She might even have noted the inclusion in my charts of some paperwork from WIC stating that from the diet recall charts that I have done for them, I seen to eat a very healthy diet. BUT NO. I got the American Diabetes Association diet shoved at me, together with a piece of paper stating exactly how many calories I am allowed to have in a day and exactly what my portion sizes must be. Then I was told to follow the diet "exactly" and report back to her how things were going. can we say NOT?? In my opinion, as long as I continue to eat healthy and the baby is thriving and I show no signs of developing GD, it is no one's business but my own whether I eat 1/2 a cup or a whole cup of canned pears at breakfast!! Argh. Anyhow, sorry for the vent, but I was annoyed, amazed, and slightly offended at her attitude and her assumption that I was incapable of eating to produce a healthy baby without her help.
Ah well, such is life.
I am happy to report that although I am still so tired I can hardly function (and NO I am not anemic, they checked that too...LOL), the nausea seems to have diminished somewhat. Things are going well, and the girls and I are enjoying our vacation from school.
Let's see... I had better include Ariana's Christmas haul here, so that we can look back and see how truely spoiled she was. LOL! For Christmas she received (not just from James and I, from numerous relatives also): A Care Bear and a Care Bear video, a Grand Stables Adventure set with millions of tiny pieces and 8 little "collectable" horses, several books and puzzles, a new outfit (purple cord pants with a pink turtleneck and a lavender embroidered cardigan), an Easy Bake oven with extra mix packets, a paint by numbers set, a board game entitled "Herd Your Horses" (pretty fun, actually, we played today and she beat me soundly), a Pokemon DVD, a one-year subscription to the Disney Adventures magazine, and numerous other bits and pieces from relatives and friends. She had a very good Christmas and received quite a haul.
Well, that's about it from our SNOWY part of the woods... its been snowing all day, we have about 7 new inches. SIGH. Hope everyone has a wonderful New Years!
Tanya
