Suzi's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 30, 2001

Hey everyone! Bear with me here as I try out this new method of posting my diary. I’ve been wanting to relay this story & couldn’t wait for the system to be up! One morning about 2 weeks ago the boys were all upset. I asked what was wrong And they proceeded to tell me that they couldn’t play outside after school that night. I knew of nothing that would prohibit this, the weather was nice enough for a Jan. Day in Pittsburgh and we had no plans that I could recall. Matthew then told me when his clock~radio went off he’d heard wolves & coyotes would be out that night at 7pm. (???) Where do they get this stuff ? I spent the whole time they were eating and getting ready for school convincing them I hadn’t heard any such report. Matthew proceeds to get on the school bus. I then get Nick & Sam into the car to Head for preschool. I’m not to the end of our street when I hear the problem... Some over anxious announcer is on a commercial telling everyone to tune in tonight As the Wolverines (Mich. ?) and the Coyotes will face off at 7pm tonight. College Basketball. I just cracked up then tried to explain to Nick that they were teams Like his soccer team is the Dinosaurs, not wild animals. He still didn’t believe me Right away...

Last week was the second report card day of the year. (Half way thru, yeah!) Matthew brought home both his regular report & his National achievement test Scores. Overall, he scored above average for 2nd grade. I feel really good About this since he’s the youngest child in his homeroom & the second youngest in his grade. His scores on the regular card show he improved in about 5 grades & stayed at the highest in the rest. (We have one of those wonderful schools that doesn’t use letter grades for the lower grades. This absolutely drives me nuts as what’s the difference between a check, an x & a + ?)That night we celebrated by going to the schools skate night at the local rink. Mike & the boys skated. I BS’d with friends in the cafe area, & Sam hung out doing what Mike calls “giving the ladies their baby fix” (This usually consists of being passed around amongst our friends who have kids older than ours.) Matt’s highlight of the night was winning a free pass playing “Spin the Pin”. Both older boys bought wind up joy buzzers in the pro shop. (Just what we needed)

The following day we booked the rink for Nick’s 5th birthday. I called there & the Ice rink but Roller was mush more economical. Nick’s really excited as he’s never had a party with friends & never anything away from home. We allowed him to invite all the boys in his class, 4 of the girls, plus his acro class & his cousins.

Last night was the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Matt’s Flamingo Express didn’t do so well. I think it only won one race. (It’s a best of 3 type deal) He didn’t come home too dissappointed though as he received the big pile of awards he’d earned. This included something like 5 belt loops, three pins, and his popcorn awards. He wound up being the 4th highest seller in the pack and won a clock radio for his effort. Well, that’s about it for this installment! Now let’s see if I can post this successfully! Suzi 1/30/01
