Suzi's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
February 8, 2001
This week I?m going to diverge a bit from the typical diary entry.
Yesterday as I was sitting here pondering that nothing majorly
significant had occurred in the past few days to write about, the
phone rang.
Nothing unusual about that either you?d probably think?Well,
It?s not every day you receive a phone call from a 100yr old
lady. Mike?s Great Aunt Margaret was calling to thank us for
the pictures of the boys we?d enclosed with her birthday card.
Let me tell you, Aunt Margaret has got to be the sharpest lady
of that age you can come across! She lives in a Senior Citizen?s
Highrise complex. As we?re talking she?s telling me she feels good,
nothing aches, & her mind?s clear.( I mean it?s Gotta be?how many
seniors that havn?t reached that milestone would be capable of
finding their Great Nephew?s #, calling, & getting the names &
everything right???)
When we were expecting Matthew, Aunt Margaret crocheted
a tiny white sweater for him. I found this incredible then, as
She was 92 at the time & used a magnifying glass for the tiny
stitches. Apparently she?s made many of these sweaters over
the years. One for each couple?s firstborn.I?m not sure if she?s
still doing this. There are 2 children in the family younger than
Matthew & one of her grandaughters was married within the
past year & a half. I think someone mentioned that at one point
she?d made one in advance for the grandaughter.
Mike?s family has a run of people who?ve lived to see their
100th. We were trying to count last night & she?s at least the third
we recall in our lifetimes. Two of his Great Grandmothers,
one from his dad & one from his mom have lived past that age.
Aunt Margaret is his maternal grandfather?s sister. I should add
that his grandfather is still alive & will turn 92 this year.(Still lives
alone & still drives although he?s not as steady on his feet these days)
The Great Gram. who lived that long wasn?t their mom, but Mike?s
grandmother?s mom.Our kids are pretty lucky to have 3 great
grandparents alive. Matthew, when he was first born had 5 greats
still alive.
Have a good week & remember to be thankful for those relatives
your kids have a chance to know?.take lots of pictures & record
their stories while you have a chance!
