Suzi's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 4, 2000

Hello everyone! We had a gorgeous Saturday here. Now, since mid-day Sunday we've had rain. Well, at least it's warm Spring rain!

Saturday morning the Tiger Cubs toured the local post office. The postmistress did a wonderful job. She showed them around then let them help at the window. After that, she gave them postcards to write to themselves. They then followed the postcards through all the steps till receiving them.(They put them in the mail slot, retrieved them from the mailbag, sorted, hand cancelled, then put them in their own mailboxes!)When they were leaving she gave each boy a really nice "care package" of goodies in express mail envelopes ... so, if any of you are ever cruising through Yukon, PA be sure to drop in and visit Doreen at the post office there!

Thursday evening it's our turn to host the scout meeting (we each take a month). We're planning some experiments in basic rocketry. I've been trying to get it to work. You're supposed to take an empty film canister and fill it 1/2 way with baking soda then add vinegar, snap the lid on, invert it and the rocket will pop ... well, I think I need fresh baking soda because so far mine just fizz. I also have another "recipe" for it using Alka-Seltzer tablets and water.

Our other big event of the weekend centered on Nicholas. He came in the house and asked Mike to take the training wheels off his bike. I thought "Uh-ohh...." 'cause last fall he asked the same thing and I wound up spending the weekend running around the yard helping him steady his bike and get started. Eventually he asked for them to be put back on. Well, this time Mike took them off and then went off to work under the hood of my car. Next thing I know Matt comes running up yelling, "Look, look, Nick can ride his bike!!!" Sure enough, he just hopped on it and took off across the yard, across the driveway and down to the other side of the yard. Then, to our shock he turned around and rode it back! Ugh! We now have a 4-year-old on a two-wheeler...without training wheels! Now of course he's upset that it's rained the past three days and he can't ride.

Wishing all your April showers turn in to lots of flowers!
