Suzi's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
May 12, 2000
Last Friday I picked Matthew up a few minutes early at school and
took him for his Chicken Pox vaccine. I figured his luck may be
running out making it this long without catching it. We know he's
been exposed a number of times to it as well as the Shingles form.
While there, we ran into the mom of one of his friends who had
brought her 2-year-old in with an ear infection. A couple hours later
when we were back home we heard a bunch of sirens going off. My mom
called to let us know that she heard over the scanner that there was
a 911 call from the same family's house. The boy in Matt's class had
just received a quad from his parents for his birthday earlier in the
week. Somehow he rolled it backwards on himself. He wound up being
Life-Flighted to Children's Hospital with a compound fracture of one
arm, a broken collarbone on the other and heavy bruising of his
chest. I spoke with the mother yesterday. They've let him come home
after surgery to insert pins into the arm. He'll most likely miss the
rest of the school year. Last night the T-ball coach asked Matt to
replace the boy on the ball team. Soccer only has a week left so I
guess we'll switch gears.
Monday Nick "graduated" from preschool. He played a frog in the
pagent. The children all looked so cute in their tiny caps and gowns!
He'll attend the same school again next year though, I'm not ready to
push him into kindergarten this soon. It's amazing to me how each
child moves at his/her own pace. Matt was ready for school as soon as
he turned 5. Nick prefers more physical pursuits to academics at this
point. Next month he'll participate in his first recital with his tap
and acro classes.
Tuesday I accompanied the first-graders on their field trip. I never
knew a bus ride could be so noisy! One of the other moms showed the
kids how to motion to the truckers so they'd blow their air horns. I
think every truck that passed us on the PA Turnpike honked! Of
course, each time this would happen the kids would break into giggles
and cheers.
Wednesday the PTO helped the students Tie Dye t-shirts in the school
colors to be worn for their track and field day. This went smoother
than I'd expected. Nothing got spilled and the weather was good
enough that we used the canopied porch where the busses load.
Gee...did I mention amidst all this we had an animal emergency ???
Sunday morning we had to drive the dog to an emergency vet clinic.
She had a tumor below her tail, which required surgery. Monday I had
to take her to the regular vet to have the operation performed. She
pulled through, although the vet admits she was definitely in
perilous condition. Yesterday afternoon I was able to bring her home
(in exchange for a small fortune). Poor thing has to wear one of
those plastic funnel collars for two weeks till the stitches are
removed and the biopsy won't be back for a week.
Well, hope everyone enjoys a terrific Mother's Day and by the time
you're reading this Memorial Day festivities will be just 'round the
corner!
Suzi
(off to put her feet up for 5 minutes till the next activity!)
It seems like it's been a long week. It's been crammed full of
events. Finally today I get to play catch up on housework and
correspondence.
