Suzi's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
May 24, 2000
Monday, although overcast, was one of those glorious days that
hopefully the boys will remember for the rest of their lives. Schools
in this area typically hold picnics at Kennywood Park. It's this
great amusement park just outside downtown Pittsburgh. There's the
perfect blend of old and new with plenty of landscaping so it doesn't
feel too manufactured. Well, Mike took the day off work and we headed
there for the afternoon and early evening. We left Sam with my mom
since the weather was a little foreboding. It was a great family day
of rides, park food and a couple games. Nicholas had his first ride
on the Jackrabbit, a not-very-tame coaster there. We never even went
to Kiddieland till after dinner.
The kids also get the day after the picnic off if there aren't many
snow days; this year there weren't any snow days. It's sort of a
"hangover day." Unfortunately, the rains returned yesterday. Another
of Matt's ballgames was rained out.
Today is the districtwide elementary track and field day. I hear
thunder in the distance but it's bright and sunny so hopefully
they'll get it in. Only two classroom instruction days this week and
three next, then the obligatory turn-in-books day, get-report-cards
day and it's Summer Vacation!
Till Then!

There's a Western PA joke that goes "What comes after 3 days of rain
in Pittsburgh? Monday!" Well, this was one of those weeks. The sky
was gray when it wasn't raining, although no day was a complete
washout.
